stolen tailgate
stolen tailgate
Unfortunately some no good hagglers stole my silver tailgate off my 01 Lightning a few months back and I've been meaning to replace it. These things retail for close to 1500 from ford so clearly I'm gonna go the alternative route. Does anyone know if any of the regular f-150 flareside stylside tailgates will fit a lightning?? also if you have any recommendations on where to get one for a descent price let me know. THanks.
yes any flare side tailgate 1997-2003 and any supercrew 2001-2003 tailgate will fit your truck. However the badging will be different but its better then nothing.
Did your old tailgate have a lock on the handle?
Also another way you can discourage a quick theft is putting a threaded hose clamp on the passenger hinge where it slides out first. The thief would have to take the clamp off before taking the gate, and may think its not worth it.

thanks for the hospitality and no unfortunately I did not have a lock on the handle. It was the OEM tailgate and came with a standard handle and I would have never thought that this is something that thieves would ever want to steal but apparently it's become some sort of trend. Yeah I heard about the hose clamp..it's a great idea and that's what I'll be doing with my next gate. If you guys come accross any part out threads or anyone selling a compatible silver tailgate please let me know. Thanks guys.

Do you carry full coverage insurance? If so, wonder if something like this would be covered? Might not be worth it depending on the deductible. I carry liability on my ole' truck. This thread will make me start locking my tailgate, which I never do.
Sorry for you loss man, that sucks!
Great idea on the hose clamp!

you could just drive down to the ghetto and buy your tailgate back from whichever pawn shop its at ?
but in all seriousness that sucks man stealing is really one thing that can light a fire under my butt i cant stand it/understand it if something isnt yours just leave it alone simple as that, my truck got broken into about two weeks ago also

Yeah I do have insurance but I also have a 1000 deductible so it's not worth it. Im just gonna keep an eye out for some used stepside/supercrew tailgates...LOL that silver tailgate looks pretty banged up. If it was in better shape I'd be all over it. Thanks though.
