stolen tailgate
Sorry you got taken. I'd check the local yards for a new gate. I use www.car-part.com to find lots of things.

yes any flare side tailgate 1997-2003 and any supercrew 2001-2003 tailgate will fit your truck. However the badging will be different but its better then nothing.
Did your old tailgate have a lock on the handle?
Also another way you can discourage a quick theft is putting a threaded hose clamp on the passenger hinge where it slides out first. The thief would have to take the clamp off before taking the gate, and may think its not worth it.

Hello Patman
I'm new to this forum but I want to say that your idea of a hose clamp to prevent stolen tailgate is a great one. I also dont want the credit for the idea but I put this solution in a previous Ford Ranger forum elsewhere about a year ago.
I consider OUR idea as a solution to prevent bad minded people from running away with our gates. Just one thing though, your picture shows a clamp presented in the wrong way, I suggest you turn the screw upside down, close the gate and finish screwing from under, very tightly, using a nut driver tool.
This way, when this trick gets known by thieves, they might not have the tool to remove it and even better, they will not see the thing for tailgate thieves mostly do their jobs at night time.
Have a good day
