How much boost?

How much boost can a stock 02 lightning handle? I wanna put a smaller pulley on the blower that has been advertised to add 3psi with out tuning. Also, the boost by pass valve that is advertised on www.rpmoutlet.com says it will add another 3psi. I believe the stock engine runs 8psi, in theory this would all total up to 14psi i believe. Is this too much for the engine to handle if it is true?

#1 - avoid RPM outlet like the plague

#2 - it's not how much boost can your truck handle it's how good is your tune and fuel supply and can your transmision handle it????? every only wants more power and forgets it has to get to the ground or else it's worthless

#3 - why change the upper pulley? you're better off changing the lower pulley and adding an aux idler pulley for more belt wrap up top

#4 - do not change your boost levels without a tune

#5 - a 6# lower(8# with long tube headers), an upgraded MAF, a valve body in the trans, a CAI and a tune are a proven combo for a great ride

Boost bypass does nothing for an increase. It just stopped the computer from dumping boost. Mine is turned off via computer.

Second I have a stage IV port and a 6# lower and peak at 17#. And like was mentioned stay away from a upper pulley, your more apt to have belt slip.

Cool,

A couple more questions. Why avoid RPM outlet? Whats a CAI? All I have is a C&L upper intake, Accufab throttle body, Flowmaster cat back system, and an upgraded MAF that was on the truck when I bought it.

I'm looking at putting in a valve body next week or the week after that
I have to do projects one at a time and save money

oh yeah, and I have a regular 91 octane tune from a diablo predator

CAI = Cold air intake. I'd just change the line modulation valve in the VB. I'd get rid of the slowmaster exhaust when you have some extra coin.

You can safely run up to 16psi on the stock bottom end with a good tune. Anything more than that needs a built engine to run safely. As far as you r boost bypass goes... just do it the easy way... unplug the darn thing. People have gotten rich off of selling a boost bypass kit when all you need to do is just unplug it. Someone above mentioned addin an idler pulley... I strongly recommend that you DO NOT do that. These have proven themselves over time to destroy the front bearing tin the snout of the blower. It was not made to take that amount of stress. All you need is a good 6# lower pulley, properly sized belt (should get a gatorback belt), correct plugs for the boost level and a tune for it. Also, add a FTVB to the trans and you should be a 12.20 truck. My 2002 runs 12.20's all day long in that configuration.

the only muffler I'd change a flowmaster to would be a borla Xr1 or stinger...
