If you have the stock lower supercharger pulley on your truck then it is quite a job to do. If you have an aftermarket lower S/C pulley without a cage then just use a breaker bar to loosen the tensioner and slip the belt off.

With a stock pulley on the bottom you must.

1) raise and support the vehicle.
2) remove the torque converter inspection plate on the driver side front of the tranny
3) remove 1 TQ converter bolt, and install a locking tool.
4) insert breaker bar with HEX bit of proper size into the center of the front lower S/C pulley, then break pulley loose by turning RIGHT.
5) remove nuts and bolts holding the 3 legged pulley cage to the front of the motor.
6) spin pulley off of harmonic balancer
7) now you may remove the accessory drive belt
8)reverse steps for reinstalling lower pulley.

I could be wrong but IF you lock the converter then you do not need to use the hex bolt to hold.otherwise you will. And make sure to turn the PULLEY not the center bolt [if it is locked]Stan

Why not just install a stock sized aftermarket pulley, then when you want a 4#er you just swap out the ring and belt, then you will never have to remove the stupid stock lower again....?

The stock lower pulley is also a vibration damper. The cage is to support the mass of the pulley. Aftermarket pullies are lightweight, and don't need the cage. Or so the Lightning folklore goes . . .

You think some power can be freed up? since the mass is lighter?

Absolutely! But you might as well upgrade to the 4#er while it is apart. Even more gains by reducing mass and raising boost.

The reason i dont want to go to a 4lb yet is because i heard you have to change spark plugs, belt and have a programmer. Right now i just want to keep it stock. I want to work on suspension and tranny before i get more power out of it. IMO i think its best to have a truck that can handle a better takeoff than having all that power and trying to control it. But anyways does someone know where i can get the stock boost underpulley? A Good Brand!
