What is a Dodge R/T
I hear everyone talking about them, but I do not know what they are. The other day I saw a black Durango with red R/T on the door. If my calculations are correct that makes a Dodge R/T a "fast" Durango....Notice that fast is in quotations..

The R/T is a joke - no need to worry about them.

Dodge will slap R/T stickers on anything it sells. Other than the Vipers, they're all more appearance than substance.

there is also a durango r/t..
not sure if it is just an appearance package, or if it has the 360ci engine.
a quick look at the dodge website may clear that question up, but i'm not gonna go in there.

BadDog is correct - the R/T sport package is an option on most Dodge vehicles.

I noticed that you are in Fremont. I know a good shop in S.J. that works on Lightnings if you are interested. They do all of my work for me since I am not mechanically inclined -AND- they have a dyno!! They installed all of my accessories on my 2000, and my 2001 has an appt with them on 7-13.

I think they rated the Durango at like a 16.9? So I'm sure its only an appearance package. As for the dakotas, they're more of a joke. I've ridden in a Dakota with a 4.7 and it was fast for a truck. The drivers comment, "The 5.9 R/Ts are slower than the plain 4.7, or I would have got one." I thought that was pretty funny. Those R/T's sure look nice though.

The 4.7 is a better engine then the 5.9.
The 5.9 is just a big engine, w/ decent power and alot of mods for it, but outdated. Kinda like the Ford 5.0, but no where near as good.
Overall 4.7 is a much better engine.
And almost any vehicle that Dodge has can be R/T packaged, Viper, Neon (no comment), Durango, Dakota. Of course the Viper is the best, then the Dakota.

D_Coburn,
Oh yeah, Bill Kaiser's shop. I bought some Griggs suspension from them when they first opened up...In a former life, I was into the Mustang scene. I don't think they had a dyno then.
Thanks.

You are correct - Bill Kaiser's shop. They got their dyno about 6 - 8 months ago. I always prefer to have Vince work on my cars. I too was into mustangs before my L, and before APEX I always went to Charlies Mustangs. The funny thing is that I originally went to the dealer looking for a mustang when low and behold, I ran into this cool looking truck. I actually got into a bidding war at the dealership for my 2000 L.
Take it easy!

R/T means "road and Track" That has been dodge,s signature performance letters since 1969.Its been on chargers&challangers with motors like 383,440 and Hemi. The new dodge has them on Durango,Dakota,Intrepid and even the Neon. Its primarily an appearance and handling pkge, though the engines are upped a bit in H.P. where the Intrepid gets the larger v6(shame cuz it is a good lookin car)Neon gets a H.P. shot for their inline 4, and the 5.9's find their way into the trucks., which BTW are more powerful the the 4.9They are in the low to mid 15 second bracket(in the dakota) and are pretty quick.I know cuz my 95 L had a hard time pullin from one once.My truck is good for a 14.7 quarter with just a few bolt-ons.They can be quick with a good tune and launch no matter what anybody says.
