At the track...
The cruise out to the track was fun. It reminded me of a video game. We had the supercharged type R, the wickedly quick-but stock looking 93 talon, the silver SS, the Monster, and at the last minute, the 2001 10th Anniversary Trans Am, IROC edition.
We get there, and Brian K, starts taking weight off the bed of my truck. As most of you all know, I usually run with atleast 1 sandbag, but usually 3. He showed me the light.
We took out the sandbag, and then another 100 lbs. The rear end of the truck was atleast 1.5" higher than what I was used to. Add to the fact that I didnt get much seat time alone launching the truck with the new parts.
Its all said and done and Brian is giving me a bunch of pointer, and I tell him I am gonna go line up. I get in the staging lanes, and whos in the right lane?
The 10th Ann. T/A. I've beat him on the street, and been beaten also. His old car tore my truck up, you wont find any vids of us anywhere, its that serious between us. With his new car, he's pretty confident thats he's gonna take me out. It was time to break in the JDM chip kit on his a$$. We do our burnouts, and line them up. He didnt wait for me to pre-stage before he stages. I didnt like that. The tree drops...
And I cut a .58 light to his .77 light. through the first 330' he's at my door/bed, and I am holding him off pretty good. At the 1/8th mile, he's pulling just a tad, we both trap at 84, (84.6 me vs. 84.5 him) and its still going on. At this point I am hanging on, just really glad I didnt fub the launch, as I never raced this light before, modded even. The next 700 feet were me trying to hold him off. We went through the traps one right fender just in front of the other.
The win light goes off, and it was the left one. I almost lost my voice. I was at the track 30 minutes, and already gotten a best, but beat the man to beat, by .101. I ended up running a 13.434@102, to his 13.33@106. This was when I found out I had a fan at the end of the track. An old man with a beat up old ford truck, yelling "way to go FORD TRUCK show them fast cars!"
We lined up in the staging lanes again. I had a feeling it was going to be a long day. I do my burnout, and then he starts his. Street cars aren't allowed the privilage of burning out, then rolling past the tree. He was pretty excited. Didnt expect that to happen. The light drops, and he takes off early. A .28 light to my .69 light. We both ran similar times as before, but it was quite clear who got the headstart.
The 3rd, oughtta 5 races, he got my on the r/t, and ran a 13.36, to my 13.40. It was good competition. I dont think there was any two cars that were running closer times. In the pits he said nice racing, but you arent ETing better than me. I told him the light goes green at the same time, and it was I who was getting there first.
I do a bye run-and net a 13.33, come back with a nice grin and tell him all about it. He said he was done, and was putting air in his tires. Something must have struck a nerve, I went into the staging lanes alone, and when I got waved to run, I had a playmate. The T/A. After his staging tactics, I wait for him to get close to lining up before I start my brunout. He prestages, then stages. I just started my burnout. I know this is not going over well in the right lane. I dont like waiting a minute for the other guy, staged and ready to run. As I roll up, I put it in neutral, and throw a nice loud rev. I did it to cool the temp sensors, and to play a head game. The tree drops and I cut a about a tenth better than he on the start. I knew I'd need every bit of it. By the 1/8th mile he was reeling me in, and as the traps closed in, it was anybody's game. I ran another 13.40@102 to his 13.33@107, I beat him there by .034. A good race.
We hot lapped it. Long story short, I got him on the r/t and ET, I think he ran a 13.55 @106to my 13.41.
I also raced a 98 SS with a nice wing on the back. Out of 2 races, I got him by about half a second. He had a bent pushrod, and went 13.91@99, then a 14.01@99.
Then there was the 13.2 second RX7. By the time he got to me, he was running 13.6s@107, to my more and more consistent 13.3s@102. By this time the ford truck man just raised his arm. It must be tiring doing all that yelling.

My last run was a 14.31, but the 3 or 4 before that were all 13.3s, highest 13.3 was a 13.36. A bunch of 13.4s, and one or two 13.5s, my slowest run was a 13.55.
That 14.31@101 was with my friend driving. I think he spun through the first 60', let off the gas, then got back on it.
I know its a long post, but the vids should be up as soon as I can get a new computer...YES, VIDS.

What is the advantage of reving your motor before you race? I know you stated that it cools the temp sensors but how does that help?

I am not exactly sure how it all works, all I know is that when I had Jim data log my truck on a 93 degree day when he put it in nuetral and reved it a few times I could see the temps go down about 20 degrees on his scan tool.
So I know it does work.
