changed my fuel filter today.
i just changed my fuel filter for the first time today. (23K miles) it was clogged up pretty good.
i could barely blow thru the old filter.
i have several pics that i will post after i find a new place to upload them.
#@$%*&! zing.
took pics of the tools needed, the new & old filter, steering stops, ect.
thank you mr. chuhran for the fuel filter.
i do have one question.
the old filter had part number FG-986B on it, and the new one had # FG-986 on it.
does the "B" make a difference?
anyone know?
i'm thinking about getting a fuel pressure guage for under the hood. what is the normal operating fuel pressure of our trucks?
will the guage will give me an idea on when to change the filter?
a quick rundown of the procedure:
put truck up on ramps, jackstands, or a lift.
secure back tires (chock them)
i took off my gas cap. i dont know if that is needed, but i didnt have too much gas spill out.
pull clamps off each hose (you'll see)
put special fuel line tool on front fitting & push into the hose. you'll hear a click when you are far enough.
pull front hose off & wedge it between something so it doesnt leak on you.
put red cap from new filter onto old filter. (the old one has a LOT of gas in it)
get ready to put the other red cap on!
use the line tool & pull the back hose off.
slap the red cap on!
pull out old filter, put in new one.
replace hoses.. push them till you hear them click into place.
put hose clamps back on & you're done.
wash up! LOL

Brooks,
How 'ya do'in buddy?!!!
I also replaced my fuel filter on Friday. I cut open the old one and visually inspected the element. I found NO evidence of build-up or blockage of any kind. Oh well, at least I know I have a fresh one now.
Take care,
Jake...

According to the standard Maintenance Manual that came with my '99 Lightning, it looks like the recommended first fuel filter change is at 15,000 miles. Seems kind of low. I think the next change is at 30,000 miles. What do you guys think?

Good pics Brooks. do both pumps flow thru that little soda straw filter? what is the i.d. of that inlet/outlet? the pump lines on my paxton are 3/8" id in and out and the filter is larger than our oil filter. do you think that little dink filter could restrict volume?
