RAN A NEW 2001 GT MUSTANG AT THE TRACK HA HA
So this kid is bragging to me how last nite he beat a Lightning. I just looked at him and said come to the lanes the minute they open. He ran a 9.22 (1/8 track) and I ran a 8.57. The best he could do all nite was a 9.10 which unfortunately for him was .1 below what he dialed and I beat him again anyway. So much for the new GT.

It had 2000 miles on it and was bone stock he said except for octane booster. Had his air lowered to 20 and couldn't figure out why he couldn't get any traction. Our first 60' were mine 1.95, his 2.24

There is no way a bone stock '00-01 GT will beat an L in the 1/8 mile...even if the L is stock (which noelvm's is not). 95% of the time they will not beat a bone stock L in the 1/4 mile, either.
Best I've seen out of a new '01 GT was down at HRP (Houston) and it ran 13.78 @ 101mph. This is pretty respectable, but it was also done in March of this year (much better conditions). However, the 60' time was still 2.10, so a stock L will still beat it out of the hole and hold it off through the 1/8 mile.
9.10-9.2x 1/8 mile times stink. IMHO, the guy doesn't know how to launch the car. As we all know its an entirely different game than racing from a rolling punch on the street...which is much easier to do.

Yes Wes you're right. The best thing about the 1/8 is not being handicapped by the air we push over 80. And I definately hole shot these guys especially the ones that come out with street tires. I noticed in street racing that the firebirds and cameros came on strong above 80. 1/8 is fun.

I'm by no stretch of the imagination "stock" so I could not for the life of me understand we this one turd on another board would fight me tooth and nail over beating a stock, almost right off the show room floor GT? It wasn't one of my more proud kills, but it was my first against an 01 GT so I posted it and you always find one guy who just won't buy it because he "saw a new GT running low 13's at his local track" thus all of them run that way. Gimme a break.

: Lets get real here,were all ford people, or most of us.If you can't beat a stock 01 GT you really otta take it back to the dealer and make sure it wasn't a ranger with L trim.....The stangs run good if ya work on em,and they cost about 10 grand less,if if a guy wants to invest that in a stang, it could get ugly.So lets stick to killing off the vettes and let our stang brothers take care of the f cars!!!!!

First, even a premium coupe loaded with everything can be had for around $21k, maybe even less.
Second, if a person is so inclined, there is a vortech blower and intercooler package out there, that combined with the mandantory chip, exhaust and air upgrades will put a GT right at 400HP and 450 torque for around $5k, with everthing else still stock.
So, being that a GT weighs about 1000 pounds less than the L, it would be bye bye baby, see ya later. Unless of course, the tranny or clutch said bye bye baby, see ya later. LMAO

I test drive a 2001 GT saturday and was not impressed. I have NO doubts that a L would blow it away. I love the mustang's but it really didn't seem as fast as I had expected. Anyway, just my .02 on the matter.
