Post Chip or no chip survey.

I am wondering how many of us have chips and how many don't. Also, of those that have chips, how many have had absolutely NO problems? I would like to tabulate the results if enough of you respond. Thanks.

YOU do know that Ford/SVT reads this board don't you?

I wouldn't answer this question for the world if I was anyone out there.

No chip here. It seems like too big of a risk to take with something goin wrong or for the warranty to be voided etc. It also seems that people constantly have problems and need re-burns and on and on.

Chipped since new. No problems to date. I fix my own stuff so I doubt Ford will ever touch my truck again. If I were forced to take it to them they had better be darn sure they can prove that the chip caused the problem because I've got the time and resources to put up a pretty decent fight if that was what it took.

Last time I checked I was the one that paid for the truck, my name is on the title and I'll pretty much do as I please with it.

And yes I know Ford/SVT reads this board. I met a couple of their guys last winter. They were on a little testing road trip and were very interested in what was being done to these trucks. Ford won't be the problem (IMHO) it's those dumb a$$ dealers/service writers that cause most of the problems. I've also seen hits on my web site from the Ford domain. Who's watching who?

No chip here, not worth it. And yes MY name is on the title, but Ford can't be trusted to build a strong product IMO.

I have an old superchip flip chip street/strip. For strip it has an old r4 program with the shift points at about 5700 and the rev limiter set at 6500. I beleve its faster than the r7 and r9. I've never had any problems and it never pings. It lacks on top end but I run at a 1/8 strip and it does fine. The only chip that has ever beat me, in a truck with similar mods was one with Sals chip. I took it out for a week when my battery went dead. My truck felt like my wife's Mountaineer. Don't leave home without it.

I have a flip-chip and have had no problems, my intercooler did start leaking at 4,200 miles though. I doubt that the chip had anything to do with the intercooler, I think that Ford just put junk intercoolers in these truck and has yet to fix this problem. The rest of my mods are in my signature.

I personally would not pay the payments on any L without a chip. It makes that much of a difference. The only draw back to the chip is that if you have transmisson or engine problems you more than likely will have a problem with most dealers. Ford is blaming the chips for most all engine and transmisson problems!

I don't have a chip,pro-m,and most certainly don't have a pulley but if i did,i can assure you that at 24k i would have no problems whith my 00L.No leaking ic,no tranny problems or piston problems ect.But my 99 off road had a piston slappin motor replaced hmmmmmmmmm.I would guess that if i did have these mods my 00 would run 12.79 108.97 before the pulley but ford would not like that so i guess i will resist the temptation.

I look at the ones who do not have chips and notice that they hardly have any posts at all. It's as if they aren't studied up and do not ask "?'s", only just sit back and look for problems to surface before they make posts.

Chips tuned properly by a well known tuner are NOT going to give you problems when they are done conservatively or even moderately tuned. It's not the chip that gives you the problem regardless (unless they tune it to blow your pcm somehow), it's the additional stress that a race-program can add on your driveline. Let's remember, that our drivelines are EXTREMELY tough from the factory.

So what that Ford reads this board? They CANNOT void your warranty because of it, and they CANNOT singularly point someone out to make a mockery of (although they did try this w/ Sal one time).

Jerry Green who WORKS for Ford diligently uses chip tuning to make his showcase cars run better and quicker (he uses Superchips, though, because he has a deal worked out w/ Paul from Paul's High Performance).

There's just a LOT of misinformation out there and you that are against chips will always continue to be against chips until you change your mind by experiencing the beauty and benefits of them.

I once had a problem w/ my '96 Mystic Cobra that Ford could NOT diagnose properly NOR fix after numerous dealers. I took a chip tuner (Chris Johnson who uses Autologic www.jmschip.com ) to fix it. He fixed it in less than 30 min. to boot!

Let’s say that Ford extrapolates the results of this post and determines that 80% of all Lightning owners have been chipped. Next let’s say that Ford informs all dealer to check for chips, missing CUX covers, and unusual looking negative battery bolts/terminals. Now Ford can start voiding warranties to avoid fixing things like leaking intercoolers ect….

Can you see my point now?

Don’t answer this post.

I'm not answering your post, just answering this to all those who think Ford can void a warranty for adding a chip: NOPE, NOWAY, NOHOW. Sure, they'll give you BS about it and claim they're going to blacklist you and that dealer may not even work on your car, but sometimes you gotta pay to play and any good lawyer would win that case for you.

Do a search on my name in the past couple of months and look for my post about the Magnuson Moss warranty act. Nevermind, I found it for everyone:
