Factory clunk fix
Ok here goes...
Have had my 00L for about 3 months. After the first month I noticed the infamous clunk and took it to the dealer to get fixed. I had the tires rotated about a week prior to hearing the clunk...and after IT happened, the front tires felt funny from 20 mph to a stop.
I back out of a parking space making a sharp turn and I hear it, so I make an appt to get it fixed. I tell them about the tires acting up and they said I needed an alignment and tried to charge me for it like I ran over a curb or something. So they get me out of paying for an alignment as they had to redo the frontend after fixing the control arm. The clunk has never been heard since, but the tires are the same. I took it back a week later and told them and they checked it out and said I needed 2 new tires??? Granted they are in worse shape than the back ones, but by no means worn out. They said they are cupped on the inside.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? I think they are bsing me and trying to get out of something. If someone had a similar problem and can post it and I can TELL them what happened, maybe they won't try to feed me the "you need tires" line again. I think the clunk screwed something and they didn't fix it but I'm not sure what.
Any help is appreciated!

It seems like there were several people that had their tires replaced, at FORD's expense, because of the clunk issue. Hopefully they will post it or give you the link to it. Have you done a search for it here?
The sound that you are hearing at about 20mph is cupped front tires. I have the same thing and have an appointment with my ford dealer tomorrow. My tires have 9k miles and they have been rotated!! I also had the clunk fix ( welded ).
This cluck that you all are talking about....do you only hear it when you are turning the wheels as far as they will turn?? I asked a couple of I guys I hang out with and they said it comes with all lightnings, kinda like and extra option from Ford...LOL. Is this a problem Ford will fix??

I know about Herb's washers but this post was pertaining to the tire issue and not on how to make the noise go away or to buy something. The noise isn't there anymore anyways, but the tires are screwed.

I had a "whomp whomp whomnp" coming from my '99 but I figured that was the messed up rim on the drivers side. It was slightly bulged near the tire.
Hmmm, I wonder if it was cupping of the tires instead because of the clunk? My '99 had it BAD!

Red2k#1554,
Have you got this problem taken care of yet? If not you have to stop the bolt from moving on the driver's side lower control arm. Just because you don't hear the noise dosen't mean that the bolt is not moving. Take a peek at the bolt to see if you can see if it has moved. Once you have the bolt secured. It's you move on how you want to do that. Get the upper cam bolts for the upper control arms. Then get an alignment.
