Cool

Ever since I stoped by the Porche dealer and spoke with a mechanic there, I take quoted performance numbers with a grain of salt. On this particular day a brand new Twin Turbo was sitting in the service bay. It had just been tested by either Road & Track or Car & Driver. He showed me a real small first gear, with some of the teath sheared off! Apparently when you dump the clutch on a 400 hp motor at 3000-5000 RPM for minimum 1/4 times **** happens. This was done 3 or 4 times to obtain lowest possible ET. I think around 12.5. I could never make myself do this to a $100,000 plus sports car. Or my 911. Just could not. My L, no problem, peddle to the metal and it just keeps on ticking! No problem.

Now as to your Viper friend. In order to win he is going to have to rev up that $70,000 sports car with v-10, dump the clutch, carefully work the throtle with tires blazzing so he does not get 90 degrees sideways and then hit a couple of great shifts. He is going to pull this off in front of you and whoever is spectating. All to obtain the glory of beating what I call my shop truck. No pressure here!! He will have to do this on an unprepared normal road, not a 1/4 mile track. And his name is not John Force.

You win!

I like the hay bale idea as well, good for traction, good show. Heck bring an extra bale for him, I am sure it will fit in his trunk no sweat. Go with that country look and get the Deliverance sound track playing way loud to set the mood, if you get it just right, Ned will be sqeeling right at launch time.

Wish I could be there!!!!!!!

Dude you should go faster then a 12.4 with a 75 shot. I went 12.40's with my 50 shot and my PSP program. and that was down in st. louis where the wether was chitty as hell. I can't wait to go the track around here on a cold day and run a 11.??? with a 50 shot, thats moving. you can take him..

Also, for the best hooking up in the street, you need the RTKILLA battery box modification. my chit hooks up awesome with the street tires now. awesome I tell you. wait till I do the custom fuel cell and get more weight back there. LAUNCH HARD, I'm a beleiver now.

No race yet. It is raining here today and it is a good chance for rain tomorrow. I guess we will try to get the race in next weekend!

I have a 2000 Lightning and a 1999 Viper GTS.
I drive them both about equal time. Stock against stock, it is no contest. The Viper is much faster in all ranges. I had them both dynoed. My only mods are smooth tubes and K&Ns on the Viper and Airaid on the Lightning. Viper - 408 RWHP. Lightning - 348 RWHP. Considering the weight difference, most of the discussion on this thread is wishful thinking combined with mental masturbation.

I think HANKFAN has just a little more done to his Lightning than just an airaid.

Back to thinking I go!

Good Luck! I saw a Viper run 12.80 today @ LACR. 2700' above sea level and 94 degree temp. That is a stout run in those conditions.

LightningASP- ****y Viper owners like you are exactly the reason why I built my truck like I did. Rear Wheel HP doesn't mean a thing when you can't plant it on the ground. You see my truck does not spin one bit during the launch while running ET streets. The Viper is going to have the feather the hell out of the throttle until at least 3rd gear then it's going to be too late for him. Granted I know I couldn't hold him off forever but I think I will be fine in the 1/4. I just hope this guy doesn't start making excuses not to race!

We all know that MOST of our ET depends on the launch.I would love to see you beat him,Good luck. You can take him if he fouls.

Hankfan - read my post again. I said: " stock for stock". Also, a Viper owner that knows how to drive will easily run 12.1 or better at or near sea level. I enjoy my Lightning just as much as the Viper, but they are very different vehicles. If you race a Viper with a nitrous shot, like you have, you would would really be indulging in mm.

Actually, using your logic, you'd need a Viper with a Blower and NOS and ET streets... and you're saying the Lightning would lose.
Thanks for the wisdom.

This whole thread is not a "stock vs. stock" thread... this is a "run what you brung" content.

The thing is, if you want to compare it that way then Take the price of the viper nitrous and then take the price difference for the vehicles and add it to his budget and then let him mod the L with that and a fiberglass body etc. That would be even money right? So for the same cost as a viper you don't think he could be toasting one?

Oh now lets not start the "for the price of blahblah" conversation. Thats typically how the R/T drivers justify loosing races
