I own a 2000 Saleen S/C. They are indeed nice, but you definitely take the heat from other stang owners. Comments such as overpriced, underpowered, etc...are common. Personnaly, I don't give a rats a$$ what others think, I love the car. Everywhere you go, people stare, especially with the speedster cover on. Actually, I'm in the process of buying a 99 Saleen Cobra also.
If you want to check out some Saleen photos, check out my website:

There is also a bunch of pictures on http://www.pornstar-racing.com

Wes--
The warranty for the 2000's and below was 1 yr/12000 miles, but I thought Saleen changed it in 2001 for 3/36k..?

Yoda--
If you like red, check out the color Liz-stick red. It is really hard to capture on film, but it is awesome in person. You have to see it to appreciate it.

Dennis G,

You may be completely correct about the '01+ Saleen warranty. I honestly do not know. I got my '98 for a total steal ($9k under current retail for the car) and since I consider my knowledge of the drivetrain in this car to be well above average, I didn't mind not having a warranty.

The dealership actually wanted me to get in touch with their new-car Saleen rep b/c he could set me up with an extended warranty (for about $2k). I said "no thanks".

LoCo F150, they do not make one with a 427 motor. They are all 4.6s now...most are 2v 4.6s, some are supercharged. A few are "Cobra" Saleens with the 4v 4.6 engine. The last of the Windsor motors was in '99 when they made the S351. This was a supercharged 351" Windsor motor. Some were finished off as '00 models, but there are _very_ few of these. I can't remember all the build numbers. I know of my particular year ('98) they made only 22 S351 Saleens.

It's a cool car, and DennisG is correct...it gets a lot of looks and stares. I like it b/c its got gobs of torque, plenty of power, handles and brakes way better than my '96 Cobra did, and will retain a decent amount of value since I won't put many miles on it. But, I could never have afforded the original sticker price of the car ($55+k), nor IMHO is the car worth that.

Believe it or not, the dealer I buy my cars through, sold a guy a brand new Lightning. A year later he traded it in on a brand new Saleen. 3 months later he traded the saleen in for a used, low miles 2000 Lightning. What kind of a hit to the wallet do you think that guy took?

MRBBQMAN, that pic of the red Saleen doesnt look right. It was much darker, it looked like dried up blood (sorry couldnt think of a better way to describe it) had a metalic flake to it. Way too cool! The sounds those things make are so unbeleivable, you can tell one from like a mile away they are so loud! I love the exhaust sound!

MRBBQ - the photo I posted was the blue one that Downs is selling now, I've never seen the red one their before. But I got sit in that Saleen, I would've taken it over the lightning. At least with the lightning though you can get past some cops.

Talking

An SVT / Saleen dealer here in town has about 2o Rousch's in all flavors and about 6 - 8 Saleens in all flavors, including convertables. It was cool seeing the Saleen "custom S belt" config and the different style Superchargers they use. I personally like the silver / gold / bronze looking color. NICE!!! One of em', hard top, was over $50K.

Thumbs up

Nice new car Wes! I've always admired the S351. I'm sure you're enjoying it!

Yoda,
You're a weenie for thinking about getting rid of your L for a slower CAR!!!

Hey, what dealer did you see the new ones at? Several weeks ago I was at Five Star on Mcdowell and they had 2 red ones in the showroom and a silver and a black one outside. Seems like the demand has really slowed on these since last year.

How's school goin? How's the job and all? I can't wait till winter so we can go back to the track again.

Cool

There is a picture in mmff on page 217 of a ragtop crimson red saleen you saw.The only saleen i would trade my lightning for would be a 95 s-351 r model, add a 60.00 pulley and your doing mid 11s.You would hear no ragging from L or stang owners if you owned this bad a** saleen.

ibfast,

Actually, the fastest Saleen tested was the '98 model (by MMFF), but Saleen admitted to me that they "cheated" by raising the artificially low rev-limiter and ran race gas. In this configuration, but otherwise in stock form, it ran 11.55 @ 122mph on slicks in very good air. Also hit 177mph in one of these.

The '95 is certainly easier to modify due to its EEC-IV/OBD-1 computer. Mine has the EEC-V/OBD-2 and its actually a modified '96 351W truck computer. So, I have no aftermarket computer aids (at this time...working on it!) to help tune it more aggressively.

Once I get rid of the 5500rpm rev-limiter so I can use the power it has in stock form, mine will run 117-118mph through the traps all day long in the TX heat. Get a bit more fuel to it, add a pulley as you mention, and it would get insane for a 3650lb car.
