Post Calling RTKILLA

I saw an old post where you recommended the Kicker 157.2 5x7 comps. Did you install them in your truck ? If so, are you still happy with them?
I had been considering Diamond's or Momo's, but the Kickers would be an easy install and no holes to cut for the tweets.

Thanks

Did you mount the tweets in the middle of the mid's or off to the sides ?
I'm going to replace my Polk DX7's now

No they come mounted to the speaker, but there on a bridge almost. the woofer is seperate fromt he tweeter, but there together. its nice, trust me you'll love them.

are you going to do four of them, if so then I would seriously consider this. the back location in the truck really sucks! What I did was I bought a set of the Q-forms and did the 5.25 kicker resolution's in there. the truck is sick loud now. if your not going to go with the Q-forms, then I would just do the two up front 5x7's. the back spots are not worth wasting your money on the speakers when you barely going to hear them. if anything just do the two.

me and clonetek both have the same exact speaker in our truck (he used my advice, HAHAHA), but if you want ask him too. he loves his Q-forms.

they cost about $200.00 and they come painted to match and they fit great!

check it out:

Hey RT - are those Qlogic Kicks specified for the f150's. I did some searching and was under the impression that you had to get the generic kickpanels and fabricate them to the trucks.

Also since you have the kicks are you using any speakers in the doors? I was considering some good 5.25 in kicks and then use a pair a 5x7's in the front doors (or possibly the rear stock location) for mid fill.

Those are the just the regular f150 Q logic Q-forms. they fit without any mods at all.

I also have the kicker 5x7 impulses's in the door's. I like it loud!! forget the stock speaker location, its worthless. Any stereo shop worth a darn will tell you that. your better off spending twice as much on one set in the front then two set's of decent speakers. I opted to go with two sets of awesome speakers and I'm more then happy with them.

I never considered kicker for speakers until I heard this one guys car with four of the 5x7's. it changed my mind. kicker makes some good quality products.

RTKILLA,

I have(2) JL Microsubs in the back (very efficient), and was going to go with a pair of Diamond or Momo's comps in the front. Now, I will try the Kickers instead, but will try them in the doors first. I was not planning on anything else in the back.
I know you swear by PG amps, but can you recommend a 5 channel amp to do my setup ?
I was going to go with the Kicker or MTX, since their 5th channels are efficient
Class D .
I cannot spend as much as the Audio Master, but I think the system is going to sound pretty good.

Thanks Again!

Surfdog -

If you want a good 5-channel amp look into the Memphis "Memphis Belle". it is like 75x4@4ohm for your speakers and then has 1100x1@1ohm for your subs. The only problem is its size, but i guess you will run into that problem with any 5-channel amp. This amp is a class D as well (at least the 1100x1). Check it out:
http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/P8&9_Studio_Amps.htm

P.S. it is 9"x2.25"x26.26"

Zbornac,

Actually, the Memphis Belle, was a consideration, but it may be more than what I
really need. I was planning on hooking up the microsub's in parallel for a 2 ohm load, then feeding them with 200-300 watts total. Apparently, the JL's will do 120DB at 100 watts RMS, so I don't need that much power. I think the Memphis will do 1000 watts to the sub's

Thanks

RT - so you have to set of comps in the front. Isn't that a little to much highs?

okay, here goes..

i saw the "q-forms" in several other vehicles before yours rtkilla..

i would rather have gone with JL Audio, but i dont like the bastards that are the only dealer here in town.. (can i say bastards on here?) LOL

the q-forms are a easy way to get sound up front.. you could have a set of custom fiberglas kick pods made, but that costs mega$$.. (maybe not for me, i have a friend who is a god with 'glas, but he has been too buzy to do anything for me)

a pic of the kicks before cutting the holes.

a helpful hint.. order a bottle of paint from qform.. you will have scratches/nicks after a few passengers.. it only costs $3-$4.

i used kicker speakers in the q-forms

for the doors, i used a 6.5" midbass driver.

it fits without cutting.. you just have to make a spacer ring to get it to get the magnet away from the window track.

then i used some nasty old phoenix gold amps and a phoenix gold 15 farad cap to power everything.

i didnt use the rear speakers at all..

he and i both have the trenz billet grilles.
his is polished, and mine is brushed.

you can get it from the f150online store for a pretty good price.
there are 21 bars on the top grill, and 12 or so on the bottom one.

here are my instructions on how to install the grills.
