odometer lying?
I was lookin at a used 00
yesterday. The odometer read only 6000 mi but the truck seemed like it had more. Is there any way these digital odos can be clocked back or temporarilly disconnected. It looked suspicious but I didn"t want to accuse the guy.
Thanks
Yes, they can temp. disconnect it by pulling a couple of different things. First, is the fuse, but your transmission will not shift out right, normally, on an automatic. And 2nd, well, I will not post that. That's just plain wrong
Why? Cause someone on here will go and do it.
Now, people, PLEASE do not post it if you know it. That's not cool.

Get over it.No need for you to play like the principal or something. If any of us wanted to find out,Its OUR business not yours to say who can say what! If you know and want to play know it all without telling, fine but no need to police the web.....Jacka$$
Lquick - Dude, there's no need for that. I think what he was trying to prevent was 70% of the L's out there from having incorrect mileage on them. I sure wouldnt want to buy a used L if there was a good chance that more miles were on it than indicated. And calling him a "jacka$$" only takes this from a discussion to a argument/bitchfest.

Also keep in mind that even though it has 6000 miles on it.It is 2 years old and most damage adds up from sitting not driving.(brakes, tranny seals, engine seals, rust ,corrosion.Look at the tires and under the hood for mileage worrys.Trust me on this one.Ive seen so many low mileage vehicles be POS and the high ones that are driven and maintained properly be great cars!!
Yes, its possible to reprogram the odos, the dealer's know how to do it, among other not so nice people.
Also, the dealer our shop buys parts from has told us that a bunch of Rangers (normal odos) and F150s (with digi odos) are reading in kilometers, instead of miles.
Find some mile posts and do a timed mile to see if the odo reads right. The speedo is calibrated to do mph.

I'm just trying my best to keep someone from getting screwed on miles by NOT posting what "I" know. If I wouldn't have mentioned it and someone else would said similar to what I said you too would be calling him a jackass. Why?
No biggie, I do not take offense to the replies at all. I just realize some things are ethically wrong and some people have no morals. Either way, I realize at least it wasn't me that screwed someone down the line.
I just find it apparent that there is at least 3 in this post that has posted that wanted to know even though the topic didn't ask for the trick. Does it matter how I really word the post? I could have said, "email me to find out how to rip off your odometer" and you all would have been emailing me and then I would have been some cult hero to you. Screw that.
Go stand in the corner.

Putting it in reverse will add more miles, & the speedometer will register too! Loyd
