Give me a break people, everyone has to deal w/ problems from EVERY manufacturer. BMW is already having major issues w/ their new M3. Let's not forget that when the new C5 debuted in '97 that it had a host of problems w/ the drivetrain and subsequent recalls, as well as the problem w/ the windows coming out nearly an inch at high speeds.

If you're so sick of Ford then why in the world are you on this site posting BS like this above? You'll most likely buy another Ford again, just like 99% of the rest of you will.

We'll always find something to nitpick about and BS about. Notice Chevrolet didn't even make this list:

Thumbs up

I say thanks to Ford for building the awesome Lightning. You did it 93-95 and you have done it again in 99-0x!!!

I owned a 93 L for 140K miles and it was a blast. My 99 L has almost 7K on it and it has been extremely rewarding..

As far as problems like the Leaking Intercoolers, Piston Slap and Clunking. That may be the price of admission, BUT, that may also be the next 99 Cobra class action suit or Firestone tire fiasco.

I applaud you for putting the current 5.4 Lightning engine in the Harley Davidson trucks. Hopefully that will make the above 3 issues more of a priority for Ford/SVT. If ~15,000 leaking intercoolers isn't enough, you are inviting even more problems.

As far as the dealer service issues. I have no problems....You see, every dealer I have taken my 93 or 99 Lightning to has: A) Not been able to accurately diagnose and fix my problems on the first attempt. B) Caused more physical damage to my vehicles then before I brought it in. C) Has shown their incredible SVT knowledge when they either ask "What is a Lightning?" or "Who put the supercharger on there?".

I whole heartedly agree that SVT should be way more selective when approving a SVT dealership. Sales Knowledge, SVT mechanics and some special treatment for the SVT owners.

Again, I applaud you on your efforts...

toyota is the only company that makes a decent car anymore, they have 17 models now too with another out next year, when i get my L, i will enjoy my free donuts everyweekend at the ford service dept until the next gen supra comes out, i sell toyotas and i have sold gmc-buick-pontiac-FORD-and mitsu. before and toyota is the best, i sell toyota now and the supra rumors we are hearing is a TT 4.2l v-8 with 32v extremely detuned to only make about 420hp, or with out TT at 320-330, base rice will be about 35k with full dressors about 41k, if trd did a tundra like svt does the L i would be a player, i had an extended cab 3.4 v-6 tacoma with the TRD blower about 2 years ago and it was a ton of fun, i beat a few lt1 cambirds and a ton of mustangs, it was lowered on 18's and looks killer, I NEVER HAD ONE PROBLEM IN 18 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP, but i get one huge prob a month from first my saleen and now my cobra

Lets take these one at a time.
1st - Every manufacture does have problems, but you've lost track of the original post, It's to Ford, thats who we are concerned with.
2nd - Again you've lost the point. We DO own L's or Ford products and we are not happy with how Ford is conducting business with us. Which part exactly is BS? NO I will not buy another Ford product. As a long time customer I am saying sayonara.
3rd - Nitpick? You call the I/C, piston slap, Explorergate, clunk, doorcrack -Nitpick?
If you haven't figured it out by now, let me help you - Sell your Ford stock.
After the Venezualeans get done with them they've got to pay off the rest of the world.

I'm happy with my Lightning. I haven't lost any point.

You all knew what you were buying beforehand, and those that didn't did at least know that they were getting a TRUCK w/ a HiPo motor, suspension, etc. and realized that somewhere down the line something would come about that wasn't expected.

If you don't like it, sell it. If you want to keep it and continue to bitch, fine. If you want results then start a class action lawsuit. There are WAY more of us than there are of '99 Cobra owners. Ever given that any thought?

I say take all your remarks of how you're not going to buy another Ford product and go buy yourself all a Lexus. Even they have problems. Even Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Cadillac, Mazda, etc. all have problems.

If you KNEW about the potential problems w/ these trucks and you went and bought one anyway, only to come here and bitch about it after the fact, then shame on you!

I know you're kidding Even so, we all do realize Ford isn't going anywhere. Neither is Firestone. If anything they'll only go UP in sales and profits. They've taken steps years ago to prevent such catastrophic situations that could render them bankrupt. Even so, corporate America would not allow it.

Goodbye, I'll keep enjoying my Fords. Man, if I didn't have something to work on every weekend, I wouldn't know what to do. I don't care if I'm the last Ford consumer on Earth, I'll be loyal to the end. Yes our intercoolers, and control arms, and piston slap etc...SUCK, but you can still count me in on the next big thing Ford can turn out. This is not aimed directly at you AUTOMAN, your post was simply convienant. To all that are complaining about your trucks, I'll buy em' from you at 50 cents on the dollar. That way you don't have to cry about em' anymore.

I love my truck and will continue to buy Ford unless something changes. This is my third Ford truck in a row (94 F150, 99 F250, 01 Lightning) and I've had way fewer problems then friends and co-workers with other brands including imports. If you don't like it, sell it and make someone else happy.

Ok guys I know allot of you are pissed about the problems we have with this truck, and there is allot.

clunking noise
leaking intercooler
piston slap
transmission's
and so on.......

but think of it this way. What other truck out there can even touch are lightnings. NONE. SVT did a great job of finally makeing a bad *** vehicle that everyone loves.

sure I would love to have everything fixed, but I still will never get rid of my baby. I'll fix her first before I get rid of it.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Toyota has had its share of problems too, for example I owned a 99' Tacoma and from day one it was a constant pain in the you know what. At 6,000 miles one the brake calipers went out and I almost hit a wall because I hit the brakes and it pulled real hard to the right. At 26,000 the crank bolt worked its way out and the pulley came off when I was driving totally destroyed the whole bottom end of the engine. At 32,000 the clutch pressure plate fractured completely in half when I was driving it. Since Toyota made no effort to say "We think you have a lemon, and what can we do to resolve this vehicles problem", drove it directly to the Ford deaership and traded it in immediately on a 00' L. That has been my experience with Toyota and they knew I was pissed for nothing being done because when they called to say "congradulations on your payoff", I told them to f@$k themselves. Just a little heads up info on Toyota too.

I guess we have a difference of opinions. I DO NOT think it OK for a major car manufacturer in the year 2000 (or 1990's) to produce vehicles with MAJOR defects AND knowing about them beforehand. I used to work on real racing cars (without doors) and we would NEVER have put a driver in a car that we KNEW to be defective. Ford will!, they put the world in there Explorer.
Thats off the main subject and that is OUR L's. Yes, I applaud them for producing a vehicle as potent as the L, but this truck is not built by some shadetree mechanic it is built by a HUGE manufacturer with a massive budget. If they cannot produce this truck without major problems than it should have never been produced. Yes I consider an engine ingesting coolant to be a major problem.
