Post Factory Painting

How are cars painted now-a-days? I was told by a friend that the metal is positivily charged and the paint negativily charged, then the body is dipped in the paint; thus, it bonds better. He's a big physics/engineering dork, so it sounded good to me. Is this true? Or is it just sprayed on?

I used to be in the paint and body field and to my knowledge the paint is still sprayed on buy robotic arms. I have seen video of this and it is pretty cool. The coolest part is I have seen robot painted cars that still had runs in the clear.

What your friend is talking about is what the mfg's call an ecoating and it is the first primer coat basically. It is true they electically charge the thing and dip it and it is for the primer.

I think I am right, but then again I am always right LOL
