Question Custom chip programming

Is there anywhere in Texas that I get a chip that is custom programmed for my truck? I know that MTI in Houston does work on GM's. While my truck will be stock, I'd just like to KNOW that the chip will work work with my truck correctly. I've read some posts where people have had to send back their chips for reprogramming after experiencing detonation or extremely hard shifts. I just don't know if I trust these cookie cutter chips. That's not to say that I think there are problems with the programmers. I just think that engine performance deviates too much from truck to truck to assume that one chip will work for all of them.

Thanks,
Edward

Well Ed, if you can't trust people like me to do your chip via mail order, I'm not gonna even try to sell you one . If you want to get your truck custom dyno tuned, and you are in TX, you should go to Dallas Mustang, and have CJ tune your truck. They will hook up a wide band O2 sensor to monitor your air/fuel ratio, and tune your truck right on the dyno for optimum power. I'd do the same thing for you, but doubt you wanna come up to NY . Tell CJ I referred you.

Thanks for the info Sal. But please, don't take my apprehension about buying an off-the-shelf chip personally. I tried to make it clear in my post that I don't have a problem with tuners. I just know that you guys have to produce a chip that will work on most if not all Lightnings. I'm sure there are users of your chips that could potienally make more power; but this same chip must work on engines that cannot. Who knows; I just might end up buying one of your chips? I'm just trying to explore all my options at this point.

Thanks again,
Edward

Edward, I did not take offense to your comments, I understand your outlook on it and I was just being humorous about it . Also keep in mind that my chips are not really "off the shelf" or "one size fits all". While I do start with the same "base" file, I make each calibration per truck. Working strictly with Lightnings, gives me more of a "feel" for each persons needs. While dyno tuning is the best way to make optimum safe power, keep in mind that many dyno "tuners" don't tune these trucks very well. The best thing to do is exactly what you have done, and ask for a good local tuner.

Hey Edward where in Austin do you live? Do you ever go to the "midnight races." It would be cool to meet some other L owners around here. What do you say.

This is a very good question. Does anyone know of a reputable tuner in the Memphis area? Maybe LTNBOLT does?

Thanks

Hey Big Red,

I haven't gone to the midnight races in quite a while. But I do plan to make it up there pretty soon. Dave & Buster's is pretty far for me since I live so far south. Hope to see you there. Look for a truck that's red like yours.

If it helps any, Sal has had a lot of experience tuning chip for Texas trucks (I should know, mine is one of them). If you can't get a reliable tuner to do a good job on the dyno, Sal's chip would be a great substitute.

Just my .02 worth....

Hey Edward, they had to move the M.R. out to I-35 and Braker, because of to many rice burners makeing burn out marks on the street. LOL. It's now in the Harley Davidson parking lot. I went up there tonight and saw a red 2001 L. Maybe it was you, but I could not hunt down the owner of it. I can't make it out there much, because of work. but hope to see you there sometime. O and do you know of a good dyno shop here in Austin?
