Anyone using Bass tubes in their trucks?
I an currently using 2 10 inch JL subs. They came out of a much bigger box that sat in the trunk of a mustang. The bass was great in that car and I knew it would not be as good in the smaller boxes, but I really miss it. I was thinking to switching over to bass tubes, (possibly amplified) to get the hard hitting bass back. Any suggestions/recomendations would be great.. Thanks in advance... Kyle

I've got a single 10w6 JL in the truck. Just built the enclosure Sunday - .7 cubic ft, sealed. Used 3/4" MDF. Powering it with a 500a2 Rockford Amp, it sees 3ohms from the subs dual 6ohm voice coils wired in parallel. IT HITS HARD. I couldn't imagine putting 2 in there, it'd be unbelievable.
My cousin has a 10" Bazooka in his car that doesnt hit nearly as hard as this JL. You'd never fir it in the truck, too damn big. You'd lose at least 2-3 clicks on the seat to get 1 in. Do 2 and forget having the driver seat all the way back.
I did some research before deciding on the JL, and 2 8" Bazookas would have been the only answer. I decided not to go that route due to my good experience with JL, and not being overly impressed with Bazooka.
To each their own, but I'd recommend using 2 10w6's. You can build a box that will fit across the back, retain the seating positions, and have more bass than you could ever want.... unless you already have w6's, then you might not have the correct sized box, too low power, or a frequency cut-off too high.
Hope that helps a bit.

I am using a single 6.5" Bazooka tube behind the passenger seat and Kenwood Excelon 5 x 7's in the place of the factory speakers and it sounds real good to me. Not a lot of room inside the cab to fill with sound.

All speakers and amps are not created equally.. ( We all knew this )
Two good subs ( JL Audio, Kicker, Fosgate, etc.) and a good amp ( Fosgate, Alpine, PPI, etc. ) will sound good.. I have two 8" JL audios in my L with an Alpine v-12 amp pushing them.. It will not make your nose itch but, I find myself turning it down after a few minutes of high volume play..
I would stay away from the bazookas.. they may be loud.. but they are not that clean.. and when you put some power to them.. the blow pretty easily..
Just my 2 cents..

I had a self powered 10' and 8'bazooka tube in my l and was not impressed. bass was very distorted. switched to a single MTX 10'in a sealed box with a MTX 2200 series amp pushing 250 to the sub sound really good. I listen to a wide varity of music, rock to classic to rega. I have not been disapointed yet.
personal preference has allot to do with it. What sounds good to me may not to you. I am a fan of quick hitting bass, not much for the long lingering bass. I know the box can be built to fit behind the passengers seat and not loose any space. Good luck let us know what you finally do.

I have Kicker self amped tubes in mine, and it flat out impresses people with the way that it sounds. Combined with Fosgate Components up front for clarity, the system sounds incredible.
I did it after a buddy of mine had the same setup (almost) in a 95 Reg Cab Ford. You'd have to hear it to believe it. Even the local Audiophiles are impressed.
