Lets face it, Alpha's right. We are all Enthusiasts we never looked at how safe these trucks were (I did buy the L because my wife was scared of the outcome of a 911 vs. a deer, but I did not research the NHTSA crash tests). Look at my user name; Thats what these trucks are! 20 yrs ago this truck would've been the General Lee. All we really cared about was the power it offered. I'm not saying that I don't care about life, just that we all bought these trucks for a different reason than crash tests results.

I'm glad you think I'm right, RF, I'm just not sure what you are agreeing with. I'm like a broken clock, I'm right at least twice a day. I have so many opinions I don't even agree with myself a lot of the time. However, its clear to me that Detroit is interested in only one thing, the bottom line, and since the f-150 is the best selling vehicle in America, if not the world, why should Ford give a damn about safety issues when clearly consumers don't? I am considering a new car for my wife, and since she is not the most aware driver in the world, safety is absolutely my highest priority, therefore I should get her a Z06 (j/k). But since my driving skills are on a par with Jeff Burton's, I can drive my Lightning as fast as I want any time anywhere and I will be impervious to danger, regardless of road conditions or bad drivers (which are very few here in California, anyway). So, as a Libertarian, I say let 'er rip, and the consequences be damned.

This what I'm about to post is not by any means to overshadow the HORRIFIC death that Randy had to endure. Before I go on I'd like to wish his family the best in future and pray that their God will see to it that they are taken care of.

Now, here's something quite "weird" and a lil humorous about what happened to me today when I took delivery of my new silver '01 from Treadwell Ford in Mobile, AL:

I was sitting there in the waiting area of the dealership watching TV waiting on those slow *** financial managers when low and behold Dateline comes on. Wouldn't you guess it, yes, the crash tests and footage come on about how poorly the F150 performed. I'm sitting there w/ my mouth wide open and so are the good looking married couple next to me. I looked over at them and said, "I just bought a new F150 Lightning today " and we all just busted out giggling.

Sure, no wreck is funny, but don't you think given the circumstances of where I was and what I was doing that it was a lil humorous?

I went to the general manager and asked him why that was playing and he stated, "well, we knew it was going to, but didn't realize what channel we had it on."

OOPS

raising of insurance rates was my first thought when i saw that safety test, like many others here. the other issue at hand is the fact that many people who have had their cars destroyed by these "monstrous" trucks want to see them lowered. trucks today are being produced by the factory with the height and tires that we used to spend big bucks to put on. twenty years ago truck bumpers were much lower and many people would like to see go back to that way.
i will stand by this statement. have the man who did the test get in a car the height of the wall used and let me hit him with an f150. which vehicle would he rather be in then? me too.

In keeping with my requests throughout, I am moving this thread to the "Safety" forum where it is more appropriate.
