Exclamation Nitto drag radials for 18" wheels!!

This may be old news...if so, I apologize. I don't post here much anymore.

I just opened my July issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and the Nitto advertisement says they now have 305/45-18s available in their NT-555R tires...which is their drag radial!

Will be a little taller than the stock L tire, but should work pretty well.

Anyone tried these yet?

'Bout freaking time! I'm gonna have to get a set now. The Mustang boys have been wanting these things forever.

The tire size should lend itself to better ET's than the BFG DRs since the final drive ratio is a little better.

Hopefully they will not try to stick it to everyone that wants them.

Masterloggie

I didnt find 18" NT555R (305/45/18) anywhere, but I did hear a rumor that one of our fellow members was running them.

Thumbs up

WA 2 FST
I can attest to how well the NITTO D/R's
work as I used them (275-40R-17's) to win the Street Lightning class at last weeks
WFC 4 at Gateway International Dragway. Got
60'time down to 1.86 when I got the launch
right? Hope to get some of those new one's
in the 18" size real soon cause of the win
with the 17"ers.(I hope, I hope,I hope!!!)
My effective rear ratio is good to using them
at 3.95 cause of the 25.6" size. Would love
a wider than 8" rim too! Then with right launch maybe 60'S could be in the mid 1.7's

Hey Masterloggie,

That's a nice little town you live in. I spent this past Christmas there, with my sister. I saw a red gen 1 in her subdivision, Eagle Crest or Eagle Bluff, something like that.

How much bigger is the 305 than our factory 295's. Also in the same add it states coming soon 295/45/18 555's. I wonder if they will be any better than the F-1's?

I just saw the tire listed as a "new size" in the Nitto advertisement in the July '01 issue of MMFF. I have no idea if they are really available yet.

The 305/45 will be 28.80" tall. Thus it will reduce the effective gear ratio of our trucks. This may not be a big deal...that is yet to be seen.

I have run Nitto drag radials (and do 100% of the time) on my '90 LX for years. They are good tires, and wear much better than the BFG drag radials I've run before.

Give Nitto a call at 1-800-581-2977 or go to www.nittotire.com

The 305/45 tires will only change your gear ratio from 3.73 to 3.68. Its not going to make a difference on a vehicle with this much torque.
You can use the Nitto's on the street. They where better and are a better street tire than the BFG drag radials, but I wouldn't expect more than 5-10k miles out of a set on a Lightning. Put them on a seperate set of rims and just throw them on when your going out looking for some action, use your regular tires the rest of the time.

I got 18,000+ miles out of a set of 275/40/17's on my '99 Cobra with quite a few dragstip trips on them. I would buy these BEFORE I bought BFG's if everyday driving was a concern.
