Question Will there be a 2002 Lightning???

Hello guys....this is my first post here although I have been following along for a few months. My next truck will be a Lightning...I drove a red 01 Saturday and asked about availablilty of a black one....well the dealer I plan to use can'tget a black 2001 directly from SVT and to be honest I would rather waite until the end of this year and get a 2002 model since my Ram will be paid for in Oct. Well the dealer just called me back and said they didn't know if there was going to be a 2002 Lightning...have you guys heard anything either way?

Also this particular dealer will sell me the 01 at $1500 under sticker. I think thats a hell of deal because every other dealer I have spoken with wanted sticker and would not budge. Is this a good deal?

BTW how 'bout BBQMAN...I am converting to the dark side! lol

Sorry I do not know about the 2002 Lightning. But I just had to ask about your current truck. I sold my 1998 White/Blue SS/T to buy my 2000 Silver Lightning. Just wondered what model SS/T you had since there are not alot of them around. I had just about everything done to my SS/T and then drove the Lightning. Sold the Dodge and never looked back. Sorry this is off topic.

the lightnings were scheduled for a 6yr run. i'm sure there will be an 02. most of us are waiting for the 03, new body, more power, etc. get the 01 at a good price, where you might be in the position for the 03 later on. i personally don't like getting the last year of the "old style" on vehicles.
btw Welcome, and dodges suck, or something,
that was obligatory. you know the drill

THANKS...thats what I thought but I didn't know for sure. I hate to buy the last year of the model too but I certainly don't want to waite another year.

You know your supposed to say buy a Ram Sport and with the $10K you save you could make it almost as fast as the Lightning and it would still be a Dodge...or some dumb $@#% like that!

On a serious note...on more question. Does the Lightning have some sort of traction control? I know the 01 I drove would hardly break the tires loose in a straight line and my Ram will smoke the hell out of both of them (even though its got 100 less HP).

I saw the pictures of the 02 somewhere but can't find it now, looks exactly like the 01 but has a whopping 5HP more. Your best bet is to get a 01, if your paying less then MSRP your doing damn good.

To me it sounds like the dealer wants to move this truck and wants to reel you in. Try negotiating the price even more, after you get a good trade in price on yours if your trading in.
BTW---Nice house.

Cool

If anybody tries to tell you they know for sure they are bulls**tting, everything is just speculation at this point. SVT projects are funded on a year to year basis, and there are indications, such as unsold inventories and dealer discounts, that Lightnings are not selling as well this year. Can you say high gas prices? I hope they continue the L. until '03, at least, I might be in the market for a new one by then, but nobody knows for sure just yet.

Thumbs up

Get a membership to EAA here:

http://www.eaa.org/communications/ea...d_partner.html

It's $40 bucks, and they will give you the ability to buy any Ford vehicle at a reduced price through the "X-Plan". You will get your PIN w/in 1 day via email, as well. Now find a participating "X-Plan" dealer. You can get a '01 for roughly $28,500, no hassles, set price, done deal, walk in, walk out, it's yours!

I emailed the 3 SVT dealers w/in 60 miles of me and 2 of them would sell at X-Plan to me. I'm in Mobile, AL and the two dealers were Treadwell Ford (an AutoNation dealer) and World Ford in Pensacola, FL(they were a lil more reluctant, but nevertheless will do it). Both had Lightnings in stock. 2 black ones at World Ford, and 2 whites and 1 silver at Treadwell Ford.

www.treadwellford.com and www.eworldfordpensacola.com

Hope you decide to do this!

No traction control, but you will wish there was, once it's broken in. mine was the same way, and i was pretty disapointed. the 01's have an even stickier tire than mine did. these tires don't make much noise when spinning either. if you opt to go for the chip&filter route you will be able to burn them for as long as you can afford. i'd be willing to bet that slug you test drove is a mid 13's right now, and will only get better. the speed is deceptive on the "L"s. most of us have the tickets to prove it

1. Jeeesus what a nice house you have.
2. The way Mr. Jaques (Don't call me Jac) Nasser is going on with the Firestone Tire Wars, I am not too sure there will be all that many interesting "Fords in our Future).
3. Seriously, the SVT program, and a lot of others, may come under very hard scrutiny in the near future. Ford is going to eat a couple of billion on the Firestone deal and Jaque's whole plan for his future is short term profits and "shareholder value" at all costs. Which, is an interesting oxymoron in the current marketplace.
4. All of this makes me more interested in keeping Moby who already makes a lot more power than a stock 2001 (no flames please) because I think the low volume/high horsey vehicles may possibly have a very limited future.
5. So, might as well get a reasonably current Bolt and be assured that you can through this board, for example, find lots of go fast goodies that will outperform the stock 2002 if it does arrive and you will be amongst a lot of other happy campers.

There will be a 2002 Lightning. I agree with PDF though - your dealer is trying to reel you in. Dealers in some areas (especially California) are selling the 2001 for up to $8000 over sticker, so it sounds to me like you have a very good offer. I'd take it.
