Check out the Machine section here:

http://formen.ign.com/

There's an article titled something about Mitsubishi getting its act together that talks fairly extensively about the Lancer EvoIV.

According to Sport Compact Car Mag, June 2001:

The Mitsu Lancer EVO VII will be coming to the US in response to the Impreza WRX.

Available late 2002. US-spec car will be 2.0 liter turbo awd. 276hp. 283 lb-ft. Driver adjustable diff settings for pavement, gravel, or snow.

Homologation work is underway, they're having trouble with the placement of the turbo's intercooler with meeting US bumper specs.

More info in Automobile Mag April 2001.

'02 is going to be a hell of a year for turbo imports.

End of 02. Probably as an 03 model. Hopefully the Skyline will be right behind it.

that would be a great car to own, even better than the WRX (subaru), but I was hoping for a sooner launch date than next year. The WRX has a crap load of aftermarket items for it, many to bring the performance level way up! The Lancer starts out better 280hp compared to 230 on the WRX. I would love to get a 4 door family high-performance vehicle, but at a lesser price than the Audi S4 (40k+)! I stopped by & looked @ the WRX today, looks ok, great gas milage 22-27, would be a great car to add performance parts to.

Yoda,

I have read the same stuff that DreaminAboutL posted...Evo VII is due in the U.S. as a 2003 model-year car, 276 hp, 4 door, AWD turbo four cylinder.

However, I have read that they are not just doing it in response to the Subaru WRX (which is only 227 HP), but also because Subaru is going to bring over their Impreza WRX STi (276 hp) version to the U.S. since the WRX is doing so well. This is also scheduled for the 2003 model year (of course, assuming the magazine print has ANY credibility). The Nissan Skyline GT-R is also scheduled to make its appearance in the U.S. sometime in 2003. From what I've read, these three imports will likely turn the pony car market in the U.S. on its ear. All these cars have a well-established aftermarket (esp. the Evo and WRX/STi from the WRC scene) and they can all be made to run 12s very easily. Given the possible 2003 L redesign, the rumored return/redesign of the Camaro/Firebird, and the Corvette 50th anniversary in 2003, I know I've got my popcorn in hand and am waiting for the show.

Wow, found this Evo vid over at Texas Racing Scene!!! For you unwashed nonbelieving infidels, watch how this bone stock Evo fares against a Supra TT...

http://63.94.16.161/gallery/EVO_SUPRA.MPG

And it sounds like the Evo is nailing his rev limiter in first. I guess he was too busy looking in the rear view mirror and forgetting to shift. Supposedly the Evo was tested in Sport Compact Car (May 2000) to run 12.9 @ 106 totally STOCK!!!!!

Man, the thought of these Evos, Impreza WRX/STis, and Skylines over here...it's gonna be messy.
