Question H.I.D. on 2001 Lightning?

Just curious if any of the '01 owners have done this yet? I know that some '99 and '00 guys have but was curious how it will be with the new headlight design.
Thx!

LightningKid,
I'm a little slow tonight! What are you asking if the 01 owners have done? Headlight design?

I've done HID on my 2000. I used CrystalEyes 9005/9006 conversion.

I imagine it will look pretty good on a 2001 light assembly being all clear. Definate get a D2R bulb assemble though or you will be dazzling oncoming motor traffic.

The BOSCH hid kit runs around $700, the Focus runs around $600 (485-500 on ebay) and the Catz Zeta kit runs ~$300.

There are also a few custom made kits, such as the one at www.hidkits.com ...

Hey, Hey, Hey, BlackLight, I don't claim anything, I've got them! I just put in the 01L Lamps and corners and the bulbs are not for these new lamps. Sucks at the moment not having HID's, they are great. I am waiting for the dual filement HID bulbs to come out and fit right into the 9007 socket, I have the retrofit kit now so it's a bit of a pain to install them in a 9007 socket. I think I'm gonna see how my retro's work in the Supra TT lamps........

HID lights look awesome with the 2001 headlights. However, it is definitely going to be a custom job until the availability of the 2001 headlamp assembly gets a little better. (The retrofit was really a PITA but the reward was quite sweet.) The actual install went relatively smooth in comparison.

Question

www.hidkits.com sells a 9007 kit...it just isn't dual-filament yet.

Question

Silver X, I think we are in the same boat.....
What company are you
refering to for a dual "filament" HID conversion?
I found a link to Sylvania, I believe, where they made mention of a plug and play setup. I can't seem to find it now though......

Found the link to a press release.....
SUMMARY: OSRAM SYLVANIA positions to lead an automotive revolution with an expanded XENARC® line of high-intensity discharge lighting.
Address: http://www.sylvania.com/aboutus/pres.../02212001.html

PS250, yep!

I spoke to the people at Sylvania today, they informed me that they are runnig behind schedule on their retro-fit lights. They told me that they plan to offer a complete kit for F150 including a new headlight fixture. A picture would be worth a thousand words, but they do not have one to share as of yet. Timing for the kits is looking like September or so

I also spoke to a guy at www.hidkits.com about their kits, they do offer one as a direct fit kit in place of low beam. They are working on a high/low setup now to keep both functions. They told me that it is also running behind schedule due to a design glitch. They said in a couple of months it should be available.

I know that I would prefer to have a high/low setup so I guess the wait goes on!

BTW, my HID kit is the 9006 Phillips kit OEM'd by Focuz.

I use D2R bulbs to reduce glare/dazzle. (D2S bulbs are for projection lamps)

Well, I broke down and went ahead with the hidkits.com 9007
set-up. All I can say is WOW
This is exactly what I was looking for in that I wanted a truer white light that was reliable (no burnt connectors or wiring)

I have been waiting for a while for the right headlamp assembly to do this with and the '01 assembly is it The guys at hidkits were very knowlegable about HID and very prompt. The only problem that I had was that one of the bulbs showed up cracked at the base. They asked me to return it to UPS for an insurance claim, they then went ahead and sent me another complete kit. I was very happy to receive it fully intact.

Although it is a pricey addition, it is well worth it!!

BTW, they said they will exchange my bulbs for the new high/low bulb when it become available.

Cool

Hi Wayne! How is that new '01 treating you? Unfortunatly I do not have pics but I am more than willing to meet you half way sometime to show it to you though! I am going through major 'L withdrawl now that spring is here..... Maybe if things go well (Profit Sharing) I can do another Lightning for '02.

I do come here often, this site is a hard habit to break, I do not post alot though as I don't like to be involved in the B.S. that is here these days.... things sure have changed alot
Do you still see Steve or Mike these days? I am sure that Mike is busy doing all kinds of trick projects. I don't know if there is going to be another SVT Experience at DPG this year, but if there is, I'm sure I'll see them there
