I have been involved in drag racing my whole life, from the sportsman classes all the way up to alcohol funny cars. I have never seen a display of such poor sportsmanship that I have on F150 these last few days. In the real drag racing world they keep it professional and they settle their differences on the track. This does not mean that making one or two fast runs makes you a drag racer. What makes a true drag racer is being consistent and professional. I was at the Matco Tools Nationals this weekend at Englishtown, NJ. I knew a few guys in the sportsman ranks...one of them won his round and moved on and the other lost. He packed his trailer up and went home. He did not call his competitors names. In drag racing if you red light, you lost and you go home. If you do not qualify for your class, you go home. If you lose on the tree, you go home. If you win, you should do it with professionalism, and if you lose you should also do it with professionalism.
Here is my proposal...let's do it the old fashion way. Instead of bashing people that either win the event or for the choice of products they use, why don't we settle it on the track? We will set a date and we will get all of the Lightning tuners on the boards and parts suppliers and have a good old fashioned drag race. The only thing I ask is that before the event, during the event and after the event, it is kept professional or we can just race for pink slips.

If you are interested in doing this please post here and let me know your thoughts. I am looking forward to hearing from Lightning tuner, JL and Mike from Lightning performance products.

Since drag racing is competitive and has a whole lot of testosterone built in to it, this will give us a chance to show off our tuning capabilities, our products and our engineering skills.

LETS KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL.

Excellent. Only one stipulation. Have to have a "neutural" track. So the event has to be on the West Coast. Come on tuners us West Coasters want to play too.

HIP, HIP HOORAY!
I have raced in Italy, England, and France and I too have never seen a display of such poor sportsmanship that I have on F150 these last few days (even in France!).
Very well said Jim. Thanks Caka for re-printing this here. With Monaco this weekend, I'll end with a Pit Babe.

Alright guys it's time to put up or shut up! Jim has made the offer and seems it's time to respond. Sal I think that this post was directed towards you more than anyone IMHO. Seems that this would be the perfect time for a race since you and Jim both recently purchased new 01 L's. I say the best way would be to give each of you 30 days to mod your truck. You guys decide if you want to use NOS or not. The trucks must be 100% full race weight. Someone pick a track and have a good old fashion drag race. Maybe each make 5 passes and the lowest ET counts. The one with the lowest ET wins the other's truck. Or if losing a 32K truck is a little much maybe just do it for pride and the loser agree's to post on this board and SVT performance that they got beat and the winner really is the True Lightning Tuner!! And this doesn't have to turn into some big grudge match that turns into the tuners hating one another but just a challenge to see who can run the quickest. Isn't that what most of us are in this for anyway??

Oh and please do not turn this post into a flame and get this thread locked before Sal has time to respond because if Sal doesn't respond then we will all know what we have been dying to find out anyway without a race!

Caka,
I'm in, butI will first finish all my mod's I couldn't do while on medical leave.
(cash flow). I thought most were great at WFC4 last week. Yes there was disappoint but I didn't see any bashing of venders. The only real bashing I thought of was with my
HAMMER!!! Those in the final six know what I mean? LOL!!!

Hankfan, I respect Jims post and I think the nature of his offer is a good one, but I think you are the one directing his words towards me more than he is implying that he is directing it towards me. I can't speak for Mike Reynolds or Johnny, but I am really not interested in this. An event of this nature would require a huge amount of time and money to prepare for, and frankly I don't have either to spare. I just dished out thousands of dollars for the WFC Title Sponsorship, and I have the Modular Shootout sponsorship next week, and it will be hard enough for me to recover from those. Also, and event like this would be used as a "measuring stick" of sorts for the involved vendors, and the outcome of the event could be disasterous to ANY of the participants. If people are going to be watching me vs Jim vs John to see who is the victor, then the other two people will suffer not in just thier ego, but in thier business. There are too many variables to come out with a definite victor. If anything were to happen to any of these trucks that caused poor times, it wouldn't come off as "bad luck", it would come off as "bad products". Just as an example, Lightning Bob's truck was running faster than mine, but yet at the WFC, I was running faster than him. Vendors are always changing calibrations, and parts, and coming out with new ideas. You can't "compare" vendors based on one event. Don't think I'm being chicken or anything because I'm not. I went to the JDM event in March, with a truck running on 7 cylinders, and raced in a cast with a broken ankle. I'll be the first to admit I got my butt whooped at that event. For any one vendor (PSP, JDM or JL) to participate in something like this is just a REALLY bad business decision. Besides, the largest all Ford racing event of the year just took place, and all three vendors had thier "best" trucks there. They all ran very close ETs. I think that proves that all the vendors are doing a good job.

Thumbs up

I'd have to agree with Lightning Tuner. It wouldn't be advisable for a vendor to jepordize his rep. on a single shoot-out. A lot of variable could come into play... And cost the vendor a not of credit and face with his customers.

I've tried to be nice as I could since one I don't own a Lightning and two I don't come into this section of the message board enough to say too much... But Hell I'm gonna spew my venom. So here goes. Just be nice to one another. Remeber when Rusty Wallace hit Dale Earnhart in the head with a water bottle, cause Dale wrecked him.. Sure Rusty said some naughty words to Dale. But next week they was back to racing. And Dale and Rusty was friends again. So let who ever is fussing on this Lightning Page become Dale and Rusty and let them be friends and race next week. GEE okay enough Please

Off topic, but I just wanted to say that is one hot chick! But I wonder if anyone told her that her top was almost open.....how embarrassing
Back to the topic, it looks like Jims post was a race between vendors only, not customers trucks. I could be wrong. The nature of the post sounded sincere to me, so this could be a positive event. Maby like a once or twice a year thing, but done like professionals. I think that would be something for the L community to look foward too. I think this could be pulled off. Just my .02

I have to say that Sal's take on the issue is the most risk averse move, but the wisest. Don't think that any tuner would be using equiptment we could get. those Modded out chips would be pitting our pistons in 50 miles!

This whole debacle is worthless. look at any performance product at current. The market leader is usually always overtaken by another manufacturer within a short time. Look at the Yamaha R1's vrs the GSX-R1000: the R1 rooled for 3 years and now is back burner material. It's no different for chip and truck mods. Today Sal has the best progam, next month Jim will and then Johnny will. This is competetion at it's best. A one shot race won't solve anything but create problems.

Welcome to the corporate business world! Ain't it fun...

You guys all seem like cool guys. Put it together and get us our board back in shape.
And all you talking "for" the tuners (even though I like you Spiro) please hang out for a week and let the direct particpants find a way to be cool with each other.
