Question 2001 L or 2001 Corvette, u decide.

ok, this is a really rediculous hypathetical question, and i can imagine the majority of responses, but just curious:

"PRETEND you could buy a brand new 2001 Lightning for $30K or a brand new 2001 corvette for $30k, which would you choose and why?

That's easy, you buy the Vette, sell it, buy an L, use the profit for mods on the L. Cuff your chin as you check out your smiling visage in the mirror - after all you just made a bright decision!

Get the truck. It's much more satisfying spanking someone with a truck. Everyone expects a vette to be fast but rarely do they expect a truck to be that quick. Just ask the Mustang GT driver that I spanked two stoplights in a row. He wouldn't even speak to me at the 3rd light.

I came from a Z06 to the "L". My Z ran 12.55 with ram air and exhaust. My 2 month old "L" has ran a 12.77 with mods! In good air I am sure it will run mid to low 12's and I have an extra 17k

Personaly if I could buy a vette for 30k,I would buy it first. But I think I know where your coming from so Id say the Lightning is more fun.How many people in vette do you see driving hard? Not many.I do love vettes dont get me wrong but we all know you aint getting one for 30k so your question cant fly too high here

For the money spent,I would buy a Lightning.Vettes are nice and powerful cars.Very classy too!I just think if you want something FUN to drive,You cant beat the lightning, even putting the money aside for a moment.Specially for the $$.A local dealership has a 01 white and silver for 30,800 if it helps

Oh man. I'm over here LMFAO!!! I'm not gonna mention any names here, but I took one of the members on this Forum for a ride in my '00 Coupe about 3 weeks ago and 2 weeks later he traded his L in on a '01 C5. You all can ask "red gen 1 94" and he will confirm this. Maybe if I could've hit 3rd gear while giving red gen a ride, it would've been a little more impressive. What can I say, I was a shi##y driver that night. ....... If all you're after is speed in a straight line, then buy a 89 LX 5.0 or a used Z28(LT1 or LS1) and spend a little $$$ on mods and you'll be smoking Vettes, Ls and many other vehicles and will have saved big $$$ in the process..... As far as people being surprised about a fast truck, there are many guys out there that know about the L. Those that take them lightly deserve to have their a$$ handed to them. If I could afford to, I would love to have a L parked in the garage next to my C5. I damn sure can't tow or haul jack in my C5. It's like I've mentioned before: The Lightning is the baddest truck on the planet! No other truck comes close...... The bottome line is if you can REALLY get a '01 C5 for $30K, you'd be stupid not to take it. Hell, sell it right after you buy it and make $10-15K and then get the L or another vehicle and start modding. Now if you were deciding to get a L or C5 at MSRP, then I would say it really doesn't matter..... As far as ETs go, I've only had my C5 to the track twice and I've turned a measily 13.375, but it was at 107.xx MPH. The second time at the track, there were 2 Ls that were running 12.7s and 12.9s at around 104-106MPH. I never ran against them at the track, but they would've killed me had I lined up against one. On the way back, my friend and I passed them on the interstate. Well, you can imagine what happened. We all raced several times on our way back to Nashville and it was no contest every single time. We raced from a roll anywhere from 20 on up to 50 mph and pulled on them big time. That's actually what brought me to this board. My first post was about trying to find those guys. They were really cool. Plus I've already met some real nice guys with some nice a$$ Ls..... Anyways, I say if you can actually get a new C5 for just $30k, take it....... DAMN!!! I just re-read the post. You said just "pretend". OK, pretend I could get a F1 or a C5 for $45K. HHMMMM....

I drove both cars. In the end i bought the C5. I agree with ******. He's right it's much funner driving a truck and beating a Mustang then a Vette. Everyone knows the VEttes gonna win. But I bag my Vette and it is something else when you really take it for all it's worth. You can do anything you want or ever needed to do. I have also takin a Lightning driver for a spin. After I beat him and he agreed it's time to trade in the truck and get him a sports car.

Cool

I had a modded 300ZX Twin Turbo with all the bells and whistles, flip the suspension switch and it hugged the road like nobody's buisness. Would I ever trade the Lightning for a vette or similar sports car, nope. Just my 02.

c5's look nice but are too common and come included with a stereotype, the L on the other hand is not common and is surely more fun to drive at the strip or from a stop, and this is were the action usually is. 00 black swanson chip and pro-m 12.796 best mph 108.97 stock convertor, pulleys and 93 amaco at 700 above sea level

Been in a vette... mind you it was old but it rode terrible and was not even that fast... I was not driving either so it is not fair but the L is the ultimate of any truck... One more thing to take into account is that owning a corvette is owning a legend... give the L some time and it will make it's own ... me? I was never much for history, here and now type guy.

Appearance wise I would take the L too, very nice looking and it flys.

Me pick any car?
First choice Aston Martin Vanquish second Ferrari 360 Modena both well outside my budget

What ever you chose you would have my utmost respect

I agree. I do have to put up with the stereotype. "Damn, you're under 50?!" I'm 27. There's also way more C5s on the road than Ls, but if you're after exclusivity, get the Cobra R. I would definitely agree that the L would be easier to drive than a MN6 C5. Heck, put a grandma in it and she could haul *** just like the next person, whereas someone with a stick has more chances to botch the shift, which I've been guilty of many times......

I drove a MN6 '99 vert last weekend and just loved it. The only problems I see with the C5 are: it lacks the stealthiness of the F-150, you have to rev it a little bit to get it to go, and I can't throw anything in the back.

I would sure like to get a C5 but I don't think I want to give up my '99 L to get one.

Well, I've got a 2001 L, & a 2000 Yellow C5 6-Speed. I guess I'd buy another L to put all the performance options on & see what it would do.
