Angry LIGHTNINGS,GREAT BUT PROBLEMS DO EXIST

Can't help posting what I have experienced with my 00 lightning. At 3500 miles piston whip and a bearing spun.At 6000 miles new tranmission. The SVT dealers I have worked with are just plain a pain, take my truck to a regular Ford dealer and get excellent treatment.I spoke with the gentleman who does tranny work he said there have been problems with this tranmission for years, and as a matter of fact when my truck was in the shop thay had 11 tranmissions come in for various vehicles,so the failure rate is low but does exist!!!! And you don't get piston whip or a spun bearing from a chip,it's engine failure. Why did they build the SVT cars and Lightnings unless they wanted to stand behind the product,I have a 00 lightning, son has a 97 Cobra, sure we race, that's what they are for, as well as daily drivers. But find a good dealer before ya buy your Lightning and express your concerns, then, if your happy with their service policy buy one there great.I traded in a 99 vette and kept my lightning , more fun, better racers, great people at all the races, and Jim@JDM,Johnny Lightning,Sal,And all the rest make it fun and fast. Also thanks to all of you at WFC

As the saying goes. If it has T_ts, Tires, or Props, you will have problems with it.

Cool

The tranny is the weak link in these things. I can tell by the e.t. in your sig that you have a chip. The stock clutches cannot handle the power of a full throttle 1-2 shift. As long as you leave the chip in and drive the truck hard the tranny will fail. Might as well rebuild it with the good Raybestos blues, like Ford should have done in the first place.

Wink

So maybe I'll skip the chip and just go with the crank pulley..
