Question Best technique for launching w/ street tires?

I've got an 01L w/ ~2500 miles on it, stock.

What's your launch technique? Powerbrake to ~1200 RPMs and feed in the power off the line?

i don't even powerbrake,If I do the back end breaks loose right away. But i do switch to my left foot on the brake when I'm standing still so i dont waste time shifting my right one from the brake to the gas. This also helps out to put the power down in a nice smooth MASSIVE stroke.gotta luv it!!

I had my best 60' leaving at an idle 1.94 on the F-1's. Tried 1000 rpm and 700-800 and had way to much wheel spin. Ease it to the floor. Mash it and you will go up in smoke. No burn out. Stay out of the water. Just a quick turn of the tires to clean them.

I launch just above idle, but am using traction bars. With F1's, I found 26-28 lbs air pressure works for me. If I powerbrake the truck up to 900-1000 RPM, it will spin the tires and kill my 60' time.

A lot will depend on the starting line that you will be using. National event tracks generally have great preparation and traction. Others won't bite as well. Try different things and see what works for you.

I've noticed that you can't powerbrake. I've never taken it to the track, but when I go to random roads in the country (cough cough), I've figured out that I can't powerbrake and launch correctly. Maybe it's just my novice driving, but I just idle off and feed in the power slowly, then hold on.

If I may...I find it more affordable running a seperate tire for the track, not to mention the better choice.
Our Goal... if we drag race of course, is to achieve the best ET we can from our trucks, but to simply burn away good F1 Rubber makes no sence...
Dont get me wrong, I did that in the past, until I got tired of spinning off the line. Nowadays you could buy tires that could be driven to the track if you dont feel like doing the tire swap there.
Just my .02 cents

Cool

Make that .04 cents. I also have a separate set of tires just for the track (M/T ET Streets). I have been able to do a wet burnout on them which is alot easier on the tires than doing the dry burnout I was doing on the F1's. Not to mention price. But... when I run on the F1's, I run about 25 psi. I go around the water, and do a very short burnout. I can torque it up to about 1500 when I leave with no traction problems.

I cut a 1.93 at WFC last weekend on my 01 with the stock tires. I ran 28lbs and launched around 1100 rpms after skipping the wet box and doing a quick burn out to clean up the tires. Spiro is right and I'm going with a set of ET streets so I don't have to replace the F1's. It's cheaper in the long run. I have heard that Nitto is coming out with an 18in drag radial so I'm keeping that in mind also.

i've never drag raced before but will with my new o1L. have road course driver schooled for several years. Question: when you mention air pressure for F1's when dragging; is that "hot" pressure just before the race or "cold" pressure before leaving for the track? thanks, dan

Spiro, congradulations on the 11.40 . That's unbelievable at 4,700 lbs. Are you still using the stock longblock?

What wheel and tire combo are you using? Liiks like I'm going drag racing for the next two weekends. Don't want to use up my new F1$.

ACoder,
I think you've got the right idea. I go around the water box, do a very brief spin to knock the dust off the tires, power brake to 1200, and then ease the throttle down. I've gotten multiple 1.9X 60' launches this way, with a best of 1.930. I do not change the air pressure from the stock 32 PSI cold.

Spiro,
Not to take away from the awesome times you've run, but I've got to respectfully disagree with you. Some of us aren't looking for the absolute best times we can turn, but are more interested in the best times we can turn in full street trim; i.e. no parts removed, street tires, etc. For the folks in the latter category, it's not a waste of F1's. To each his own.
