Post Computers for the Lightnings?

Does anybody know of a computer system for our trucks that will monitor all the air/fuel, timing, and stuff like that. so we can see how the truck is running and tune it properly. Maybe something like the tuners use to calibrate the chips. like a data act recorder.

Where? I would like to have that.

I got the labtop sitting at home waiting for it. a pentium 200 is good enough right. I don't see why not.

I think that DreaminAboutL posted information about some diagnostic software he bought, maybe it was Autotap, but I don't think that it was Lightning-specific, just F-150. Maybe do a search here or on nloc.org.

That looks like a good piece there. I think I'm going to order that thing pretty soon. for only $290 bucks too. shouldn't be too hard to work either.

Thanks 1BADTK

If nothing is available i would suggest a set of pyrometer guages.
The pyrometers will give you a good indication of how the engine is running based on exhaust gas temperature.
For example, if you are to lean temps go up and vice versa.

Another good device is one made by Kenne Bell

It's a detonation meter or detanometer. It's a small box that sits on top of your dash board with a led bar graph layout. You mount the knock sensor on the block and run a few cables into the vehicle.
If you are detonating, the bar graph will display it by lighting up the leds. Whats really cool about this unit is it will measure how intense the detonation is by displaying different colors. A pretty useless tuning tool especially if your exhaust is loud enough not to hear the pinging under WOT.

I know this comes with their kits but I'm sure they would sell you the parts you would need for a retrofit.

I've got the OBD-2 unit. Its simple and fairly easy to use. It will not tell you fuel/air ratio. That will have to be done by a separate unit, like a Horiba or similar.

I had mine plugged in today to monitor temperatures, spark advance and inlet air temp. I'm going to test a home built ram air and this will allow me to quantify the results.

Try this:

Joe,
Ge the AUTO-TAP! I got mine last year for around 250 bucks, I wouldn't be srprised to see the price go up again. You can monitor just about everything, but you could change NOTHING..LOL Me and you would be dangerous with "total control"
It will also turn off the MIL light, read and erase codes your truck may have.
