Post 12 SEC Excursion! Yeh right

In the new Truckin mag out on the newstand. They (on crack) said it runs 12.8 @ 138 mph. This with only 400 hp. Let the ***** fly Boys! I will never believe (like I even did before)This bull crap mag again. Plus I have seen many other missleading and incorrect info in this ***** rag ( on the L's and other trucks)Just some info. Josh

What a bunch of crap--nothing adds up.
First off the Excursion is way heavier than the L.
Second, we run 400 hp with just a chip and filter and most guys don't run that good of a time.
Third, when has anybody ever seen a high 12 and a speed of 138!!!!???? That speed correlates to more like a low 10 second time.

I'm with your thoughts about that rag!

You may not get this .But with enough torque, that time is entirely possible.I would guess that with that amount of H.P. out of a deisel,he is probably pushing around 600 lb/ft. of torque. That, my friends, is enough power to propel you (along with 400 h.p.) down the 1340 at mid to low 13's.Add some good gearing and slicks....voila!!!

400hp/600lbft would not begin to get that 7500lb barge down the 1/4 in those times. the new chevy duramax is a 300hp/520lbft stock and it takes forever in the 1/4 in a 3/4 to 1-ton truck, even with 4.10's. my best in my hd truck is a 12.00@120, that is with 700hp/900lbft, 4;10's,slicks. i saw one post of a cummins in the 11's with propane and 500hp/1100lbft, and his trap speed was 115. the times for that barge are credible, the trap speed is not, unless powerstroke torque is better than what the rest of us use, or something

Mondo1, I don't know were you race, but the 1/4 miles around here are 1320ft. I don't care how much torque that thing has but hp is what makes the mph in the quarter. And with the claimed 400hp he would still be lucky to run low 14s in the truck that size! Somebody check their Mr.Gasket pocket calculator! And to run that mph he must have a 3sec 60ft and maybe pushing 1000 hp.

I have seen a 7900lb(They weighed it at the track) Excursion run 13.5 with a 35mph headwind....NO BS!So 12's is entirely possible.

using the mustang site (corral) hp calc, a 7500 vehicle (racing weight inc driver) 138mph trap speed , needs 1572hp

Hey thanks for the critique Quiksvt, but did you ever hear of a typo error? BTW, I've been racing for over26 yrs. and Torque DOES a quarter horse, make!ie; buick gs 455 has 80 h.p. less than a chevelle 454 S.S.yet takes it in the quarter(1320!!)why? Not only does it produce 50 more ft/lbs of torque, but(and heres the important part Mrbbqman)it does it at a much lower rpm. Also on the other posts it was stated that the mph was a typo error(sound familiar?)Zorprime , you've seen correctly, I also would bet that this excursion had at LEAST 600 lb/ft of tq.God, a stock f250 powerstroke have gone mid to low 16's with just a filter mod! Monster torque at low rpms kicks a$$. and you can take that to the bank boys!

Yes, gobs of torque coupled with proper gearing (torque multiplication) will make for a good ET.

However, 138mph...NOT. That's mid-9s with traction.

I'm guessing the trap speed should have read 108.

600lbft is so close to stock, it wouldn't get that pig a 17, (at 800rpms). btw i raise pigs like that

I've been on a trip for a week but happened to pick up the mag at one of the many airports I had to visit to get a low buck ticket.

Anyway, has anyone thought to call the editor to check on the mph?? I would say we all agree the ET may be correct and as Wes says 108 mph would seem quite doable, maybe even 118 as a stretch.

I really hate to say this, but a diesel Excursion may be my next vehicle in 2003 with that type of mods. Go from the Worlds Fastest Pickup to the Worlds Fastest SUV. On the other hand, I would imagine a top of the line Excursion with the mods indicated in the article would likely approach $50K so maybe not for me. I could drop another $3K in the L and go just as fast probably.
Decisions, Decisions.
Bill.

Powerstrokes(I have one) have around 210HP and a touch over 500ftlbs stock.Chips bring them to about 300 hp and 600ftlbs and they are not running no 14s nevermind 12s.That mag is BS period.Even if I did belive that time of 12.8 it is no stock excursion. It is gutted from gas pedal to tail light and the 138,dont even go there........
