2 problems with the lightning. Need help
ok first problem is that my O.D. light does not trun off when it's in the drive position. If I touch the handel the light will go out but then as soon as I let go it comes back on. Truck does go into o.d. on the highway
Also when i let the truck sit for a few days, and then start it. Both the rpm and speed gauges max out. What the hell does that mean. it freaks me out when it does that.

I don't have an L, but I have a "regular" 2003. Lately my gauges also "max out" when I start the truck. It looks just like what happens when the gauges are put on "test mode." I still have the original battery in my truck, with 99k miles, so I'm guessing it's almost time for a new battery and that is what is causing the gauge issue. I've never had a battery last this long in my life. I even have an amp, subs, auxiliary lighting, etc. Must be one heck of an alternator.
My Motorcraft battery lasted about 7 years and was still good when I yanked it, you have a 99' stop pushing your luck and by a new battery it's time, this should stop the gauge sweep, the above is correct you need a new control arm for the column, my guess is the switch has tanked and has gone from a toggle to a monentary, or as mentioned above you lost a wire either way repair is in order.
You may have a problem in the OD switch or more likely the shifter harness (short). You can buy the whole shifter assembly "loaded" with the shifter pre wired, so it's pretty much plug & play. The shifter removal can be fun, but not to bad. Good luck.
