Post What would this service be worth?

This is the Lightning snout on our CNC after removing from the jig, where the snout was milled for the new performance pulley. What would this service be worth? Would people rather do this themselves with a grinder?

I would say anywhere from $600 to $700 bucks. But then again, how much faster can you spin that blower. what about the people that have lower blower pulley already.

Nothing. A pulley that small will experience belt slip - unless you plan on cog’ing it - which will require a new lower pulley. The lower-pulley-only change is the approach that makes sense.

You could make that pulley smaler without cogging it. You want to know how, A custom belt tensionoir that can torque that pulley up to 150 maybe 200 foot lbs. with that and some VHT on the belt, I wouldn't worry about no slipping. Its not like the stock pulley doesn't slip as it is.

Although a cog setup would provide the best grip, I really don't think it would be good for street drivability.

How much machine time? Setup time? That should determine your charge.

Too tight of belt may cause the snout bearings to wear. Cogged belt would be the sweet setup. Street driving would be no problem. Just like a timing belt on most OHC engines.

so you will pay 400+ for a single blade throotle body(that realy doesn't do ****), but you wouldn't pay 600 to 700 to have another what 20 to 30 horsepower from this pulley change. Chit, I would.

I am not interested in a pulley but for $700 bucks it better include a new snout.

Killa,
Take the snout off and send it to me.(I have a shop) Tell me the diameter you want and that is what you will get. OH! don't forget that $700. I'll even pay return shipping!

I don't know if its safe to add that small of a pulley on the truck. I already have a 2 lb pulley from PSP. If anything I would do the ASP upper pulley and with that I wouldn't have to worry about grinding the snout. Now if there was a way to spin that pulley faster then 16,000 RPMS and maybe around 20,000 RPMS (safely). You would have a fed ex tonight!!!!!

LOL..KILLA' No more pullies for you Your going to be playing with the juice...remember? Play it safe, and just stick with the PSP LOWER/BLOWER Pulley. Your boost guage will PEG when you hit that button...wait and see

One thing everyone should remeber is when you swap an upper pulley for a smaller one, you loose Belt/pulley surface. Your better off swapping the lower for a LARGER pulley that will increase your belt/pulley surface, and provide less slippage.

Cog pulley systems have no "forgivness" when they are at full swing, you CANNOT run COGS on the street, the stress would be too great for M112. One over-rev could case some serious damage to your blower.. IMO

So the choices are quite simple...remove your snout and grind away material for a smaller pulley that will more than likely cost you boost, or simply add a reputable Lower pulley of your choice

See ya' at the WFC

Spiro,
Good point about the coged belt. Hadn't thought of that angle. The larger lower pulley is the way to go. Just like a tire, increase the contact patch for more traction.

Well our lower pulley is only on the two test trucks so far. We've not had any slipping on the upper so far, and boost is too high on the OEM gauge to tell what we're getting. We'll have to get an AutoMeter mounted to tell, but I'm guessing around 13 psi. We have the three sets we're doing on the Dyno next week so it will be easy to tell just how much improvement we're getting. Last run before the lower was installed the red truck hit 410 hp SAE on the rollers. What I was really interested in was how much the CNC work would be valued at.... we're thinking around $100 including shipping back with insurance.

$100 for CNC work sounds very fair. Hope you plan on running batches rather than individual snouts. $100 would barely cover the setup time.
