Exclamation RELOCATED BATTERY?? Must READ!!!

I hope that most of you that have relocated the battery to the bed also have installed the proper "kill switch" on the rear of the truck.I know a lot have done this, so I fiugured I should remind everyone about this rule:

NHRA rules clearly state that any relocated battery MUST have the proper switch connected, and be clearly marked "OFF" in there is a need to use.So be smart, and runa switch. And also be sure that the truck shuts down as soon as the switch is flipped.

I just figured I should pass this information on. This is a NHRA track, and they STICK to the rules.

These switches can be purchased from any speedshop. Hope this helps. Lets have a safe and FAST week!!

Also, when carrying the battery from the front of the truck to the rear make sure it's right-side-up, especially if your not wearing any gloves.

Also be sure to heat test the battery by tossing it into a VERY HOT fire first, before inserting it into your truck.

The proper way to check for a fully charged battery: run a long screwdriver from the positive terminal to the negative terminal.

Note: If you are a smoker: if you can light a cigarette from the resulting sparks, the battery WAS good when you started the test.

Question

Are you required to be a smart-*** before you can post to this board?

Question

Spiro or anyone who knows

Will any location accessible from the outside be OK? Can I put it in the passenger rear fender well? This would be the easiest since that is close to where I have relocated the battery. Thanks in advance for reply.

This is from the NHRA rulebook:

"Master cutoff switch is mandatory when battery is relocated. An electrical power cutoff switch (only one) must be installed in the REARMOST part of each vehicle and be easily accessable from the outside of the car body. The cutoff switch must be connected to the POSITIVE side of the electrical system and must stop all electrical functions. The off position must be clearly indicated with the word OFF. If the switch is push/pull type, push must be the action of shutting off the electrical system, pull to turn on. Any rods of cables used to activate the switch must be minimum 1/8 inch diameter. Plastic or keyed switched prohibited."

So basically, the switch must be mounted at the very rear of the truck, and cannot be plastic or require a key to turn.

**KEEP IN MIND- you cannot simply hook your positive battery cable to the cut off switch. The truck will continue to run if you disconnect the battery. You must also tap into the power to the PCM relay to be cut off as well, from the same switch, so the truck will stop running when the switch is used.**

Is this just an NHRA rule? What about road racing?

good question... I would think that it would be required as well. If your in a terrible road race accident, someone will need to cut the power if need be in a hurry.
