Wink Rules to live by

What they didn't put in the Lightning owner's manual.

DO NOT: Put Jack-In-The-Box ***** on your antenna. Duh. I saw this today and it's what prompted me to write this list.

DO: Keep it clean. It's not a truck, it's a Lightning. Mud, bugs, and bird crap are unacceptable. Minimum accepted between-wash interval is one week.

DO NOT: Park your Lightning outside overnight. I know some of you are doing this, so stop it. One day you'll go out to find it's been stolen / keyed / defaced / trashed / violated / etc., it's inevitable. There is no excuse for this.

DO: Wave, flash high-beams, nod & smile, etc at passing Lightnings. Do not stare straight ahead or stick your nose up in the air. If you own a Lightning you are part of a club and you are obligated to acknowledge other members.

DO NOT: Install a smaller pulley, custom chip, and NOS, then complain to everyone about how the dealer voided your warranty when you take it in with 3 melted pistons.

DO: Check your intercooler level. Recommended schedule:
- Less than 5k miles: once a month
- 5k-15k miles: Every two weeks
- 15k-25k miles: Every week
- over 25k miles: you should be checking it instead of reading this.

DO NOT: Install accessories or replacement parts, or use tools purchased from a J.C. Whitney catalog on a Lightning. If you've ordered from them you know what I'm talking about.

DO: Keep it clean. Did I say this already?

DO NOT: Paint cartoon characters on the doors, tailgate, hood, or anywhere else. This is known as the "Bulldog Rule".

And finally, for non-Lightning owners:
DO NOT: Install SVT and/or Lightning badges on other trucks unless you like to be pointed and laughed at for being a F**ING IDIOT.

Did I leave anything out?

You know I see lightning guys around me all the time now, and while there not members on this club, they never seem to wave back or beep. I'm hurt by that kind of response.

You know, I'm getting weary reading these 'don't park it outside' posts.

I park mine outside, every night, and boy does it get dirty. Turns out, the dirt washes off!

As a matter of fact, I park mine outside, ON THE STREET, in a not-so-nice part of town. Once I found a hobo sleeping in the bed. Don't worry, the hobo-stink washed off, no problem.

I love this truck. I take good care of it, washing it, waxing it, hugging it and calling it George. I autocross it, I flog it, I like doing smokey burnouts whenever possible.

But I park it in the street.

Once, I came down to drive to work, and found the bed cover and roof covered in broken glass from a traffic accident that happened on the corner; there are 2 small paint chips on the tailgate where car parts bounced off. Since someone actually died in that particular accident, I figure that my Lightning got off pretty easy.

Do you want to know a secret? Under my tonneau cover, my bed has... SCRATCHES! Yes! I've put STUFF in the bed of my truck, and there are scratches! Oh, the humanity!

Outside and loving it,

-Jim

I too must park outside, although I do get to park in a private driveway. I would love to be able to keep her indoors, but it just isn't an option right now.

I know what you mean about Lightning owners not even noticing other owners. I don't see many around me ( maybe 5 different L's in 4 months or so) but, when I do, I wave or something. Haven't had one even seem to notice me. Oh well...

Wink

there is an actual "lightning specific" wave on this sight, somewhere. if you are doing it wrong, there is a penalty, or something

Ok, some of you guys might want to sit down for this one..... I live in an apartment complex full of drunk college students and I park my truck outside every night. To my defense if you ever see me at a car show you'd see how well I talk care of it, I've even set up little sprinkler guards to keep them off my baby. Also, I think the other residents are well aware of how serious I am about my truck when they see me night after night with my dash torn apart, under the hood, etc.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be used to haul stuff. I've had bark, tools, car & boat parts, drums of diesel, and even a piano in the back of mine. And under the Bedrug are a whole lot of scratches & a couple of dents. If you don't use the bed then you should have bought a Rustang.

Outside is bad, but if I ever encounter a Lightning that is continually parked overnight "on the street", I will personally bend your antenna into a rude and amusing shape.

Thumbs up

I would suggest a big "L" bend on that antenna. that way the owner would know that is was "friendly vandelism"

I guess I'll have to watch for the "Friendly Antenna Bender" to come along my street!

I can see why this makes sense... If I dare to make my truck vulnerable to vandalism, it might as well come from a friend?

I know! It's like tough love! Or an intervention! Or when Oliver broke Mom's vase on the Brady Bunch! Or when Tiger stole all the trading stamps!

It's certainly way better than some random jerkoff touching my truck, and getting a boot in his *** for his trouble?!? This is of course because it's someone with a truck like mine touching my truck, and getting a boot in the *** for his trouble...

Dirtier than ever, front wheels turned into the curb,

-Jim
