Post Lingenfelter Sierra C3 in C&D...

Just flipped through my copy of June C&D and couldn't believe how they are gushing praise over the Lingenfelter Sierra C3. While only 2 months ago, some of their staff think the Lightning is "Dumber than bottled water"...

For a mere $53K, Lingenfelter Sierra is capable of doing 13.3/102 MPH. It was almost embarrassing how the writer of the article keeps comparing 0-60/0-100 time with the Vette and 30-50 time against the 911 Turbo Tiptronic S. But a Lightning @ a whopping $31K gets a "3 out of 100 from Patrick Bedard". On second thought, it must be that mysterious "Driving Experience" that comes with spending $20K more on a Chebby.

I'll bet JL/Sal/Spiro haven't spent $20K in mods.

The T-Maxx Rules! I just blew up the TRX .15 and looking to replace it with something bigger. Did you have to change the chassis in order to put in the .21?

struck-No I did not have to replace the chassis! I ordered the robins racing kit and it bolts right up to the stock chassis. You do have to relocate one shock and cut its old mounting hole off(which is a piece of cake) and thats it. There are several kits now available for the maxx. Go to www.maxxtraxx.com and they have an entire section dedicated to the .21 size engines.
Get ready to replace some parts going to the .21! The tranny has held up great, but I have torn up two ring gear and pinion assemblies in the rear end! The front diffrential hasnt went yet. But your going from a pretty sedate .68 bhp to a 1.9 bhp engine, so after ya hammer it long enough, parts will start unassin' your maxx.
But, Ive never had so much fun tearin' stuff up! The .21 is alot easier to tune also. I found the .15's very tempermental and a pain to keep tuned. You have to learn to drive it all over again with a .21 cause it will flip over backwards with the slightest squeeze of the throttle, even when shifting into second gear, it pulls the front tires up!! Have fun!!

Car and Driver?

Wasnt the Ford Lightning the only truck to grace its cover? And If I remember right, it was one of the fast, black, Lightnings.

That just shows exactly what an exceptional vehicle this truck is. It doesn't negate the fact that C&D is a biased magazine, IMHO.

Duck,

It was 2, maybe 3 months ago when they reviewed the '01 and one of the editors gave it like 8 out of 100 possible points. They said something to the effect of "Why make a pickup fast?!?" Now they're raving the power of this Lingenfelter C3 Sierra.

Well this is yet another example where Car and Driver should change their name to Car and Hypocrite.

I saw about 1 year ago on that C&D show that they thought that the Acura NSX was outdated and for the current technology was overpriced. Just today they thought that the NSX was worth twice what Acura was asking for, just because the new NSX will have a V8 & 500 hp?

Just one big WTF kind of drugs are they on?

Lets see the 99-01 Lightnings sux, but the exact same 02 lightning is worth twice what Ford is asking because the 03 will have 600 hp [Tim Allen confusion grunt here]?

Yet another C&D author must be married to some ugly daughter of the editor, how else could they get the job?

BTW this trick doesn’t always work but usually does, if you want to see C&D review of an auto without reading it, you can usually figure out the results by extrapolating the advertisements surrounding the article. If a Lightning article is surrounded by Chevy ads well you know how this is going to turn out! This trick can save you time and $$$ at the newsstand.

I used to have an issue of C&D earliy 90's and on the cover they have a chevy cyclone and a ferrari (the one magnum pi drove i think) and they do a comparision between the two and they are all over the cyclone talking about how cool a fast truck is and also how it has room to haul stuff. hypocrites!

OTOH, seeing what (and how much $$$) it took to make a Chebby runs like a stock Lightning, it makes it that much sweeter everytime we fires up our trucks. $20K buys a *lot* of premimum gas.

Not one word was written about how the Lingenfelter handles. But just by looking at the pictures, I'll bet that it can't keep up with the Lightning in the twisties. A *huge* "Thank You" to SVT for not making the Lightning an extended cab.
