Post Changing the Fuel Filter Course 101

Gents, I need a little help. I went to the hobby shop to change the oil and fuel filter. The manager told me I wouldn't be able to change the fuel filter because I didn't have a special tool. Right now I unclipped the two hose clips on the fuel filter but I can't budge the thing. Do I need to get ugly with it or do I need a special tool? I checked the faq and did a search = no joy. Thanks. R/S Dennis

Dennis, you do need a tool to change the fuel filter. It can be purchased at any auto parts store for around $10. This tool is like a scissor and has has two different size ends. The tool will fit around the two ends that stick off the filter, and then you push it into the line ends, releasing the internal lock tabs in the ends. Hope this helps.

Tips for less mess.

Make sure the system is not pressurized.

Before removing the fuel filter from the truck, slide a couple of small vaccuum hose caps over the ends of the fuel filter as this will keep you from receiving a gas bath.
