Shame on all of you...you are to blame!
Yes, YOU are to blame for my predicament and should stand up and take responsibility!
I've been lurking on this board for the past couple of years (and a member on LS1.COM), just keeping tabs on the competition. I own a 1999 30th Anniversary WS-6 Trans Am (#1348). I ordered it in Jan. '99, received it in May '99, and promptly put about $1500 of mods on it including Borla cat-back, Whisper Air Lid, K&N, ported MAF, B&M Ripper shifter, and Nitto 555R drag radials. My best run was 13.49 @ 105.6 mph (lots of spinning).
After reading 2 years of posts from you lunatics on this board about how great the L is, I just HAD to see for myself. Unfortunately, last Thursday, April 26, at around 3:00 p.m. (the date of infamy I now refer to as "L-Day"), I made the mistake of driving a brand new 2001 Silver Lightning at a local Ford dealership.
/sigh
24 hours later, the L is sitting all shiny in my garage and my T/A is now for sale. I don't exactly remember how it all happened (details are fuzzy, delirium set in), but I do remember something about a supercharger whining and lots of torque.
So, great shame on all of you! I NEVER thought I'd get rid of my T/A (rarity, looks, and all), but the L did it. I have been converted to the dark side (and Ford, no less). Oh, the humanity!
Repent now you unwashed infidels!
Please send all donations (no flowers please, but JL Chips and lower blower pulley arrangements are fine) to "Martyr's Silver Lightning Mod Fund."
God I love this truck!!!

Congratulations!! Do you have that goofy lookin grin on you're face like I do? LOL
I ordered in November and had never driven or looked at one in person. Until she came in, I was going around the house saying "Vroooom", and moving my right foot as if it were on the accelerator pedal. My Fiance thought I was nutso until we took delivery and went for the first ride.

Yep, hehe, I've had a big Cheshire-cat grin on my face ever since getting the L! My wife keeps laughing at me and says she doesn't remember me being this excited when I got the T/A. I feel like a giddy little kid (I have a 3 yr old daughter as a benchmark).
I put about 200 miles on the truck in the first 36 hours just driving around town grinning. It's an addiction I tell ya!

Martyr - I know how you feel. I bought a 99 4X4 F150 in 98 and found this board. After reading all the L posts for almost 2 years I had been possesed by the HP and Torque demons. One day I was driving by a Ford dealer and saw it, low, mean, and SILVER! 2 hours later I was driving it home - no test drive just a lot of drooling and unintelligible jabbering waiting for the paperwork to be finished.
P.S. vinegar and water remove dried drool - I buy the vinegar in 5 gal. containers.

I don't even remember how I came across the Lightning, all I know is one day out of pure curiosity I called my LFD to see if by chance they had one for me to look at, the sales person said no but they had three on the way and two of them were already sold, when all of a sudden some demon got ahold of me and I cried out, "HERE IS MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER RESERVE THE LAST ONE FOR ME!!!!" I don't know what happened all I know is I have a 2001 white lightning sitting in my driveway. (thank you demon). Best vehicle I have ever bought.

Hehe, thanks all! Glad to be in the club!
Yes, I heard that Silver was worth about 3 tenths in the quarter, so that was a no brainer! Amazing how much HP they pack into that silver paint.
Good news...I just broke the 500 mile mark today. That's my self-imposed "break in" period when I buy a new car. Must...not...use...WOT (straining). That's a hard fight in the L, made even worse by that darn blower whining at me and just begging me to stomp on it. Maybe it's just me, but I swear it seemed like the L would just start drooling and bucking every time an F-Body went by. Now that 500 miles are past, I get to take off the leash.
JL, you will have e-mail as soon as I lose my first race. :P

Well, many of us have driven other brands of vehicles, I drove a Red Hotrod 63 chevy pick up before changing to a Ranger which I later customized, then converted to a V8 , finally purchasing the Lightning in 94. The best deal is after a few years of owning it, you can say your as happy then as the day you first bought it.

Welcome from a former 30th Anniversary F-body guy.
I'm trying to remember all the details of how I came to have my L. But, I'm on my second one i.e. 2001 and am so many lightyears away from the SS I used to own that it's like I never owned it. But, she sure was beautious. Did the LT4 Hot Cam, ported heads/intake, SLP headers, MSD, 95 OBD1 Modern Musclecar tuned PCM and a LOT of Huggar Orange powdercoating. Best E.T. was a 13.42 @ 105.9 mph. My 00 L did a 13.3 with a chip and filter kit at Norwalk last season. Needless to say, I'ma happay campah!

All I have to say is get the JDM chip, I ran a 13.3 at 103.9 last night in 92 degree weather with a 2.061 60 foot. It was only my 2nd time at the track, his chip rocks.
