Question Drop Ship

I have an 01 red L in Union City Ga I need shipped to San Antonio Tx. I can always fly out and enjoy the ride (stop in New Orleans), but I'm not a distance driver. Anyone have any input or contacts for such a service.

You'd actually let someone else bring/drive your L to you? Have you driven one of these before?

I have read a few post of vehicles being drop shipped. I didn't think they were being driven. Hmmm better re-think this.

Ragz> The only "drop ship" that I have heard about is : You order your truck from so & so dealer. You pre-arrange a drop ship with a local SVT dealer close to you. The vehicle is built and "drop-shipped" direct from the plant, to your dealer. Your local dealer gets a certain fee to accept the drop ship, for prepping the vehicle. I had real nice dealers down in Las Vegas that were pissed as they were not making $7900 above MSRP, and would not even return calls to my salesperson about accepting a drop ship. Needless to say, I'm not very fond of ANY of the Ford SVT dealers in Las Vegas Nevada. I'm happy that I shopped elsewhere and bought for $3200 under MSRP.

You're probably going to have to call some auto transport companies, and shop prices.
This is the only way to keep the miles off it.

You can get someone to drive it to you and you can get someone to haul it to you. I remember seeing a post around here about someone having theirs hauled somewhere. Seems that the guys delivering it decided it needed to be exercised during the trip. It arrived kind of roughed up and missing a good bit of tire tread, as I recall.

I've done alot of shipping of autos and no way would I let someone else drive it such a distance especially brand new. Your truck will arrive damaged in some way. It's worth the extra $3-400 to ship it on a carrier. I used alert auto, but try calling Falcon Auto in Newark, CA and ask them who they use. I have never had a problem with these guys and I have shipped tons of stuff. They're cheap, and if they can't get the job done, the'll give you the number of who can. Talk to Kay-Kay if you can.

Much luck.

Also see if the carrier will put the truck behind the cab or up top. Most companies in the phone books and website are brokers and they are the worst.

i have driven two lightnings back from where i bought them. i wouldnt let anyone ship them. the thing is that these trucks are excellent on the highway and the miles just melt away. drive it back and dont worry about the miles. just take it easy for the first little while. 65 miles an hour is still way down on the rpm scale.

I'll give Falcon Auto a ring and my intention was never to let someone drive the beast. Thanks for the input everyone.

I looked into shipping my Camaro from Dallas to Washington DC on a truck, and it was about $780. I would not let someone drive it 1300 miles for that!!!! Instead have an L here

Thumbs up

Do the drive Ragz! I drove mine from Columbus, Ga to SA when I got it, and had a blast. The L is lots of fun on I-10, you'll surprise some of the 'wine and cheese' cars that think they're hot stuff. Take a break at the casinos in Biloxi MS to make it a two day trip. I've made the trip back and forth three times, once straight through- that one wasn't as much fun.
A long trip like this is actually a great way to break in the L. As long as you don't travel at one set speed (not likely on I-10) you'll break in the rings without the heat cycling process. You'll also get it broke in before you go through too many rich startups that can potentially damage the cylinder walls. Actually, 1000 miles won't fully break it in, but it's a real good start.
