Post Question for car collectors

I would like to know what or if the value of my 2000 L is going to be hurt if they put a new motor in my truck.I have a oil leak passenger side. They tried to fix it once now 3000 miles later they called and said they will be putting a new motor in it,minus the intercooler that will come off my old motor.I feel the truck won't be worth anything to a collector due to the fact the motor is not original. What due you all think? thanks

I wouldn't sweat it. The hard part is holding on to it long enough to see if it matters! I don't think they hand stamp the engines anymore.

If you are concerned about the collectors value, keep all of the paperwork so that you have a complete history of the truck. The matching numbers issue from the sixties had to do with a stamp plate where the serial number of the vehicle, and the information on the engine and transmission was stamped.

I believe this is not done on the modular motors, so there would be no way of telling.

The only thing that would probably give away the engine change would be casting dates on the associated parts.

At a car show I was told by a Ford salesman that went to the SVT 'school' that the block will have the names of the two people who hand built the motor. I don't know how true this is but it would be cool if it was.

That is true for the Cobra engine. They put a tag on the valve/cam cover. We don't even rate a nice valve cover. A little dressier would have been nice!

'RedL:

Your 'Bolt will be worth EVEN LESS with a non-functional engine. Ditto for big puddles of oil under/on the thing (like an old AMF Harley). Get the new one and don't sweat it. Trust me on this.

I doubt any of us will live long enough to see collector value in these trucks.
