Cool Signal Mirrors

I was just at my dealership the other day for some warranty work (lube steering stops, rotate tires, order foam and seat cover for driver's seat). I had informed the technician that both outside mirrors vibrate after 45 m.p.h. He concurred and said that he would replace both of them. After reading the all the posts, knowing all the necessary wiring is already there, I asked if it would be kosher if he could order the signal mirrors and I would just pay the difference. No problem. So, for about $160.00, I will have the dealership install the signal mirrors!!! No muss, no fuss!!!

Just a word of caution. Don't expect the vibration to go away. I've had the problem on both our '97 expy and on our '00 expy. It is worse on the '00. The dealership replaced the drivers recently. They managed to break the painted portion and then finally put on a really bad one with the worst paint job you could imagine. After all that it still vibrates. I think it has to do with air cavitating around it more than anything else. Good luck with the new mirrors, I just hope you aren't dissappointed when it still looks like you are watching WWII film shot from the ****pit of a P-51.

This is the first post I have seen concerning mirror vibration. My truck certainly does not have that problem. It almost sounds like the problem is being cause by something being out of balance, such as a drivline, tires/wheels etc. It could be the exhaust system also. Have you had the exhaust system equalized to cut down on any possible vibration ?

At 38,000 miles, I noticed that my drives side mirror is vibrating much more than it use to. Thought it might be loose from its internal mounts. Battery failed yesterday at almost exactly two years just like the battery on my 93L. Ford orig equip batteries are worth a damn. New battery unconditionally with no deduct guarenteed for 3 yrs before proration. Will sell truck in 2. Works for me.

Did you order the 2001 style signal mirrors with the signal part on the mirror frame?
I thnk Ford had some problems with the signal in the mirror glass.

I have the same problem with my driver side mirror but only above 65 mph. The passenger side is ok so I know it's a mirror problem and not something else out of balance. Mine is a '99 w/14K.
Thought I was the only one with this problem.

I,too, get the vibration, the faster I go (at 125 m.p.h. the mirrors shake like the dog with the bobbing head!). The driver's side mirror vibrated shortly after I adopted the L. The passenger mirror was o.k. for a while. It just started vibrating about 1 month ago. Maybe it is due to the logic, "the harder you slam the door shut, the tighter it will seal". My dad now lives with me and I cart him around in the L (he is soooo lucky!!!!) Had him in the truck last night when I dusted a T/A conv. w/WS6. He dug it!!! I got the 2000 signal mirrors. Even if they start to vibrate (and they will!!!) at least they will look COOL!!!

Glad I'm not alone

I have noticed more and more vibration from my driver's side mirror. After a visit to Ford, they told me they have designed a new mirror that stops this from occuring. The only problem is, after they order and paint it, the cost is right around $300 per mirror. I haven't bought one yet, anyone heard any solutions to the problem yet, other than cutting your arm and leg off to pay for it.

I didn't have a clue that my L mirrors had turn signals in them for over a full year. And I only found out then because I was traveling the roads to Cecil with The Capt, Gator, Pawn, and V and when I got there and asked why all their mirrors blink, they
pointed to mine and said, THEY ALL BLINK *******

HTRDPUP:

Just a thought...about a year ago had just detailed my truck...went for a ride and both mirrors "vibrated" such that I could not clearly
see the mirror reflections...got home from the ride and noticed that both mirrors had "rotated" slightly from their mounts (the mirrors were slightly folded in)...have you checked that the mirrors are NOT rotated inward...because this will surely cause vibration....the mirrors should be in the full lockout position.

I have the Cal-Vu mirrors and I bolted them as well as glued the edges around the trim in place, and it does not vibrate at speed.

Granted, its not as smooth as an S500, but it does the trick.

Also, tell the guy who installs your mirrors to make sure all the edges are flush because its easy to torque down the bolts slightly off and the mirror becomes slightly misaligned. Also, the top edge of the base that the mirrors fit into has a tendency not to stay flush with the rubber trim around the window. You can trim the trim (lol) and make it fit.

Should be about 1 - 1.5 hours to install.

You'll love them!

I never knew that, Well I only have my truck for 6 months now. But do the 2000s have the wiring for this, or is this only on newer trucks 01 and up
