Cool 5w-20 engine oil???

I was thumbing through the SVT "booklet" that came w/ the owner's manual, and it said to use Motorcraft 5w-20 engine oil? This is a first for me. I'm planning on going w/ 5w-30. Does anyone know the reasoning behind the 5w-20? It would seem somewhat thin for operating temps IMO.
just curious...

Cool

Use what you want. If they ask you tell them 5W-20.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just put the Mobile 1 5w-30 in my 01 L today, and it's ran great. I was told that they reasons for the 5w-20 were for those ultra low emissions we have. And that 5w.30 wouldn't hurt it at all.

5W-20 from what I understand is because the engine has a very tight tolerance, and the 30 will not flow as quickly as the 20 and engine damage could occur. Whether that can happen or not I don't know, but I am using the 5W-20...

I agree, because of the tolerance, I would only use the 5/W/20. Why create a warranty issue!!

Funny thing is if you go to dealer they will use 10w30 and it is 5w20 on all new cars not just the ls for emisions and fuel mileage issue but even 10w30 will not hurt your engine.

I will not give the dealer or anyone else the chance to slime the steering wheel, or fry the tires. I used 5/20 and found that it tastes better and goes down easier than most 5/30's.

I called SVT the other day asking them what oil I should use since my 2001 owners manual has not shown up yet. 5W20 or 5W30!

I was told the engine tolerences are the same from 99-01. They went to 5W20 for emissions and fuel economy. If you use 5W30 it will not void the warrenty!

That was what I was told! I put 5W30 mobil 1 in mine.
5W20 is a little too thin for my taste. Just my .02

I agree 100%, especially considering the hot summer temps are approaching.
