Unhappy Need assistance.......Long post.....Disappointed

Went to IRP for Open Test last night and was VERY disappointed with my times.

R/T .498 .540 .584 .727
60' 2.24 2.23 2.13 2.16
1/8 9.05 8.94 8.86 8.87
MPH 80.86 81.32 81.47 81.66
1000 11.68 11.56 11.47 11.48
1/4 13.92 13.79 13.71 13.72
MPH 99.76 100.10 100.04 100.33

My performance mods include:

JDM Flip chip (used street side only)
90mm Mass Air Meter/boot
JL Ram Air
Splitfire plugs (Autolite 103's soon)
Magnaflow 12468

Other items:
Air temp was a perfect 65 degrees, low humidity but with a slight headwind.
Full trim (Retrax, tailgate, spare, hitch)
Gas between 1/4 and E
Brand new F-1's (round 1 left it at 32psi, rnds 2 & 3 = 28 psi, round 4 = 26 psi)
Light burnout to scrub the tires
1200 RPM launch (rnd 1 & 3 were feather launches, 2 & 4 were stabs w/ very little spin)
Engine drank 1 quart of glycol in one month thanks to intercooler bartender #2.
Believe 1-2 clutch pack has issues.
Need to change fuel filter in a BIG way.

Need some help here guys. Please don't tell me to buy Drag radials (bought the Mrs. a nice ride and practically all mod money has been diverted)

Feel free to email me if your suggestions may be viewed as "contorversial." Speedinbob@home.com However, in no way am I targeting the 90mm meter or Johnny's kit so don't even go there.

oh yeah, best time last year (at Norwalk) was a 13.567 @100.89 with a 1.97 60' on F-1's running:

R9/Airaid sans front panel
Intercooler Bartender #1 serving glycol shooters.
full trim except tailgate removed.
Fuel pump on the verge of death (broke down on the way home)

Thanks in advance for your guideance

Off the top of my head I'd have to say you should verify your chip is making good contact with the computer. What's the elevation at IRP? What were temps like last night? Your 60' times could use some improvement too. Maybe the new F1's need to heat cycle or something

hey Bob
After reading your post you said you have a leaky intercooler, your fuel pump is failing, and the fuel filter neads to be changed. To me these three things may be causing your disapointing times. Maybee the combination of Glycol, and lack of fuel slowed you down a little.

Hope you get these problems resolved, good luck.

Thanks for the responses guys!

2000Black,

Contacts are clean and the chip is securely fastened with good ole duct tape as electrical tape stretches too much. Not sure elevation at IRP. DOH!
Temp was 65, low humidty, yet with a slight headwind.

DonC,

Fuel filter changes this morning. Fuel pump was replaced at 12000 miles with first intercooler. Now at 23000 miles, fuel pump is fine. Too bad intercooler isn't.

Johnny,

I'll touch base with you this evening and look forward to seeing you and Mrs JL again.

'Quick,

Shoot me an email as I'm interested in comparing notes on the tranny woes... speedinbob@home.com

again, thanks guys...

Cool

Bob,

I'm basically running the same setup as you are running with no ram air.
JDM chip
90mm MAF
Magnaflow 12568
Splitfires (increased throttle response)
160 Stat (detonation insurance)
T/B (didn't help times but great on street)

I ran Thursday evening at test-n-tune.

Here are four hotlap times at 83 degrees.
These were about 10 mins. between runs.

60' 2.065 2.009 2.013 2.025
1/8 8.714 8.661 8.676 8.688
MPH 82.65 82.56 82.54 82.56
1000 11.28 11.23 11.24 11.26
1/4 13.48 13.42 13.44 13.45
MPH 102.09 102.48 102.35 102.36

This is around 70 degrees after sundown.
more that 1hr. cooldown on the first run and 40 mins. on second run. Touch of wheelspin on second run (I tried to get too agressive).

60' 1.999 2.004
1/8 8.565 8.606
MPH 83.21 82.79
1000 11.12 11.17
1/4 13.31 13.37
MPH 102.28 102.28

If you pull the Splits out you will kick yourself in the a$$. On the street it will feel flat going into the throttle. This is something you would never notice if you had never ran them. It's too late now you've experienced it and you will miss it. It's also like the T/B if you never had it no big deal but daily driving with it is a big deal.

Collin drove my truck a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe the difference in throttle response between our trucks. He is running the 90mm MAF and JDM chip. He asked me if it was the splits doing that or the T/B and I said both. We run the same times at the track.

To sum it up Bob I think the tranny and intercooler aren't helping you. Collin said when they took his intercooler out it looked clogged up from leaking.

Rob,
Could be something seriously wrong. I know the glycol injection doesnt help much. Looks like your 60' is suffering real bad.

When you had your first IC replaced did the dealership do anything with the cats or 02 sensors. I can't help but think that glycol does evil things to them.
Just a thought

Bob, your 60' times look a little slow. It is probably spinning in 1st gear. I found if I try to launch any higher than about 800 RPM, it kills my 60' times, and consequently the entire run is slower.

Next time you race it, try leaving from idle, and get a baseline run. Then you can adjust your launch RPM acordingly.

I found that 27-28 psi works best for me in the F1's.

Your MPH looks pretty good, so it doesn't appear the motor is down on power, or that there is some type of mechanical problem.

Your reaction times look great!

Chuck,

I may just put the Autolites in when I take it in for repair as I trust dealer about as far as I can shot put my truck.

Spiro,

Tell me about it. I gave my L a "there there" bath, shine and marked my territory. See...

Prime,

I'm startin to think it is IRP but this is ridiculously slow for my mods....

Bad as L,

The dealer "assured" me the cats, O2 sensors, and (then-stock) plugs were fine and refused to change them but they did a fine job on scratching my bumper. They will be replaced next time that's for DAMN sure.

Cool

Bob,

The 103 is a good replacement for the stock plug. I ran them for about a 1,000 miles after I pulled my first set of splits out. I wanted to test them out while I was waiting on my 90mm MAF and chip reburn. I also ran them at the track with good results. They mirror the throttle response of the stock plugs. Put it back stock and take it for a spin then put the 103's in. When you drive it again it will run good but feel flat going partially into the throttle. It won't tear the tires loose as easy either.
