Measure that drive shaft if you would. That doesn't look like my aluminum Ford shaft. It looks smaller,like it might be a 4" shaft. Ford has a 4.5" drive shaft.

That will tell us if it was a stock Ford part. Thanks. I need to know before I go to milan Dragway Saturday.

For you 01 guys the JDM shaft isn't the same as yours. The 01 are 4.5" and the JDM shaft is 5". I do believe that it may be the same company that makes both the shafts but they are not the same. If anyone knows something different you can correct me. I too have the JDM shaft so should I put my steely back in, or is this an isolated incident?

Thanks for the clarification on that!!. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't A Ford driveshaft. I would have had it in the back of my mind going down the track if it was.

Sorry, about the breakage, JL- Glad there wasn't extensive damage, though.
CARBON-FIBRE Drive shafts RULE!!! I Love mine. I believe they are rated for 900+ hp
Though my PSP driveshaft loop is my security blanket. LOL.

well i would like to make sure nobody thinks that i said this was a driveshaft from the 01's because it isn't.. i was over at jdm's when he took this shaft out of his truck i asked him what he planned on doing with it? he said nothing so i said how much? he said 75.00 because he had that much in it building it..i said no problem put it in instead of the stock one. so he did. no problem! i wasn't trying to stress the point that his shaft couldn't handle the JLDiablo Power! LOL! J/K! i just wanted everybody to know how important it is to make our lightnings Safe 1st! then Fast! i do know the 01 shafts are TOTALY different! and i don't for see any problems with them! But remember with these AWSOME trucks making this HUGE amount of torque its better SAFE than SORRY! LOOP IT! JL

If the JDM shaft is different, (bigger) But still made by the same company, (thickness being the same) I think EVERYONE with an aluminum shaft needs to be worried! Unless this failure was caused by rubbing on something. I agree that isn't a common way for a DS to break. Lloyd

Thank god for that loop of yours, otherwise who I would I race against, and how would I get my JL power cooler?? LOL

I will have an extra driveshaft with us for the WFC, along with a complete fuel pump assemly for the L's, and other goodies.

I hope with the JL cooler I will see some LOW numbers in the St.Louis Heat...Let's get it on and have some fun!!

But seriously, a driveshaft loop is a must for everyone, this will happen many times this year, were taking these BADASS trucks and launching them really hard..for many runs, something is bound to give sooner or later.

Is that a stock 01' shaft? Very thin wall. maybe it was chafing on the hoop? The slicks have a lot to due with over stressing the shaft. That and hard shifts. Hot slicks really multiply the load on the drivetrain. I'll give you my shaft and turn yours in for warranty, LOL

JL, are you sure that was a JDM driveshaft? I purchased one from them to go along with my 4.10s and I love it. Don't want to get involved in these wars, but I just talked to Jim and he doesn't remember selling you one. Either way, I think a loop is a good idea, looks like that will be my next mod. Thanks for the info.

LSchicago, what SVT board are you talking about? I'm jsut curious. I checked SVTperformance board and could not find anything. Is there another major that I am totally missing out on?

Yeah, Jim has a real good post over there, it seems to straighten the aluminum drive shaft mystery. Looks like I have to start looking at traction bars of some kind.

I read over on the SVT board that this was a CHEVY drive shaft with a Ford yoke. Jim made this shaft before the 01's came out, to try in his Lightning. All the aluminum shafts In everyone else's Lightnings should be a lot stronger. I'm still leery about getting one though. Lloyd
