yikes....SORRY!!
it's KRISTINA, i was just typing fast
oops
well, bmws...i guess it would just be like mustang vs. camaro etc...
they are pretty much the closest competition...and trust me, 95% of the drivers in bimmers (mostly 3-series) are ******. BIG time...they think they are the best on the road...won't let you merge in to their lane, they cut you off....etc. i got into a full on argument with a man that was probably 30 years older then me driving a 328. i mean, i have come in contact with a select FEW bmw drivers that are all right...i raced an older business man in a new 328 on toronto ... he was surprisingly very cool
as far as not having a "kill" section on audiworld, a lot of the people on that forum (or in general that own audis) aren't out for that. i mean, we like modifying our cars and taking trips to the track but a lot out there are out of their 'street racing days' or just aren't into that. i posted about that race with the 328 and i got quite a mixed reaction. most were making fun of my age (20) and my gender and the fact that i was racing (too dangerous etc). but i did get a few congrats...
anyways...

Ok, here are LOTS of answer for all of you Lightning owners from an Audi TT owner that LIKES to drive his car hard and fast!
First of all, 1/4 mile mean nothing to a European car owner. Why you ask? Our cars are not geared for it. You can be putting out 400hp from an Audi S4 and it will do high 12's to low 13's. Put that sort of power out of a Mustang and you are in the 10's-12's. Right or wrong?
0-60 times are tranny dependant and the Audi TT, ANY of the 3 flavors are NOT geared for it properly. My 180TT Quattro can't hit 60mph without shifting to 3rd gear! I top out 2nd at 7,100 rpm at 58mph. My best 0-60 accordig to a G-tech was 6.52 seconds.
Can my car go faster to 60? Yes it can now. I am hoping to test it this Friday or this weekend. I will remove my 150# stereo and now that I have an exhaust on the car it will be closer ot 6.0-6.2 0-60. I know this is not fast as compared to an L, but for a 4cyl turbo car that weighs 3,300 it is not too shabby!
Now, if anyone wants to discuss driving performance then I am your man. I DRIVE my car, I don't baby it! I have had it on 3 different tracks and auto-x it all of the time. I don't drive slow and the car is rock solid at 145mph, something that cannot be said of the L! The L is unsteady at 120mph, according to someone in this thread.
Anytime you want to run on a track or an auto-x or a road with some twisties, let me know.
I race with WSCC, have been doing so off and on for 10 years. What class does an L run in? I run in Street Mod. I was the other black TT that you saw last season. Don't let the single tail pipe fool you
Chances are you will lose by 2-5 seconds on an auto-x course to a TT, mine or gray one!
I am waiting for some parts before heading out this season, but I did race with the BMW Club once this year at Nassau Coliseum. I was on my snows and still trophied! I had FTD heading into the 4th set of runs. Let me know when and where you will next be racing and I will try and get there.
If you want to see my car it will be at the Coliseum this Sunday while I instruct at the NY Region SCCA Drivers School.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love to drive fast, but 1/4 mile was never my cup of tea. I would much rather turn left or right at the end of my long straight-aways! Much more fun and the ride last longer. For me it is more of a challenge to master 10-17 turns in a lap than to mash the throttle when the light turns from yellow to green. I will still be taking my TT down to E-town to see what it can do, but I know it will be in the 14's and never do any better than that.
If anyone wants to discuss this intelligently then I am more than willing to answer any quesitons. I post on AudiWorld as LarryTT. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions as well.

On the Audi forum I inquired as to why I never saw anything ever posted about 1/4 times or kills. I was gang informed (lots of replies) that with my redneck truck, the only way I could get attention was at the track - not true in that my L was certainly always admired, and I have yet to be complimented on the Audi TT. They went on to inform me that they were not interested in kills - just a great driving experience. I'm thinking that that yuppie bunch does not know what a great driving experience is, in that the TT is the most oversteering ride I have ever had. I asked, because everyone is always talking about chips, and other performance add-ons, but they never mention results. I guess I understand, because it is probably not a big rush to blow the doors off of a Miata!
Also, I guess if you can bring your 0-60 time down from the mid sixes to 6 flat, that is not terribly newsworthy. The grass continues not to be greener on the otherside, and I miss the ***** out of my Lightning. BTW, in under 1K miles, I have a broken oil cap that through plastic parts all over the oil fill area (hopefully not inside the tank), and two guages that are intermittant. From what I am reading, I'm one of the lucky ones. Buy American!

Sandy,
Hmmmmmm...Maybe this is just your 'round-about' way of upgrading from a '99 L to a '01 L.
Glad to see you still frequenting this board. Hope the TT settles down for you soon.
Later,
Jake...

Can you post the message board thread you mentioned? I am curious to see what they have to say, though I have no intention of posting there.

Eric, then you would be sadly mistaken! 4 of us actually got together for a beer to watch a race at Hooters 2 weeks ago!
Our SCCA Solo II monthly meetings have been held at Hooters!
****, we had almost 200 people drinking for 2 days in Somerset, PA!

Yes, I own a TT, and no, I'm not here to flame anybody. But, I was very surprised to see all you "true" car enthusiasts get all bent out of shape over this L vs. TT thing. If you WERE car enthusiasts you would recognize that all these 2 cars have in common is 4 tires! An American perf. truck, vs. a German sports/GT coupe.
And why would a yuppie buy a turbocharged, all wheel drive, two door sports car with a six speed manual? Oh, I get it, a car enthusiast would buy a big, heavy, pick-up truck with a big engine, and race it in the 1/4 mile ;-) You guys make me laugh! I'm sure most of you are enthusiasts, but you just don't show it! Oh well, I'll enjoy my TT for now, and next time I see an "L", I'll remember to wave...with my tail lights.
BTW, a stock 225HP TT will do 14.5 in the 1/4, but who cares?
