Question Chip Question...Not what you are thinking!!!

Those of you that have chips...(brand unimportant) Did you get your maximum performance right away?..or did it take awhile for the computer to lose all of its codes? I bought a used JL chip from someone and it made the truck perform a little better.(the shifts are a little firmer, and it revs a little higher between shifts) But I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed. ** Not to take anything away from Johnny at ALL, I have nothing but respect and admiration for him!!** It's just, I've always read the posts that everyone has made after they installed their chips, and I am feeling that mine is not performing as well. Do you think that I need to get it reburned? I was told that the chip is only 3 months old and is a street chip, that's all that I know. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Spencer

When you install that new JL chip, if you don't say Jesus H Christ, what the bleep, bleep, bleep, and barely save the truck from crashing, then check your connection.

If you didn't disconnect the battery it will take a few miles for the computer to read and learn the new code on the chip.

I did disconnect the (-) terminal when i installed the chip. Does this mean that I am getting the full performance of the chip right now? As far as the contacts not being clean enough, I thought it wouldn't even start if they were not clean, you mean i can get more performance out of it by cleaning them more???

it'll take your computer roughly 59 miles (so i'm told)don't quote me, for your computer to learn the programming to benifit fully, you still should feel a big difference in your shifts and such, but i would give it atleast a tank of gas or so before you resort to reprogramming unless the chip was burned for a different setup than you are using ie if you have a mass air meter and the person you bought it from didn't than i would definitly get it reprogrammed

I'm sure the chips doing it's job. The way to really test them is at the track. I have run many versions of JL's chips and his program performs to say the least. Give JL a call and see what his latest revision is.

99 svt,

If your looking for ET reduction,Dont waste 500 big ones on a throttle body.If your looking for a little more throttle respose go ahead but once I put my chip in,I could not feel any difference with or without throtttle body but without chip I could .....go figure?
