Post Are 2001's really going that fast.

I don't know why but it seems like the 2001's are gaining allot more with a chip and filter then the 99's and 2000 where. I got at the most about 5 to 6 tenths with a chip and filter added to my truck when stock. does the 2001 really make that much difference that they can go from average of a 13.7 bone stock to a 12.5 or 12.6 with just a chip and filter. I can't believe how fast everyone's is going compared to the rest. It almost makes me want to get a new 2001 and chalk up working on my 99. Whats the deal guys??????

I dunno, I remember most of the first times for 2000's popping up further into the summer...aka, hotter temps... Its still pretty cool for the most part here.

Stock for stock, the 2001's should be between about .2's faster then us anyway, no?

Cool

RTKILLA,
The bone stock 01 Lightnings are running on average about 20 to 25 more rear wheel HP than the 99-00 L's and around 2 tenths quicker at the track in the 1/4 but nobody has posted faster than a 13.2 with chip and filter for a 01 at a track yet.Give the tuners some time to test some more 01's and they will have these trucks sreaming before long!I am getting my new silver 01 this week hopefully! The only 12.60's posted were from a G-Tech and you of all members should know that the only thing that matters is a true timeslip!! Later

I did see some 12.60's but they didn't say if they where on a G-tech or not. I got it now. I was just wondering, cause that red 2001 at the dealer was looking better and better.

P.S. you wouldn't believe all the people that traded in there 99's and 00's. there must be four or maybe five of them out there now. Its crazy!

I for one do not think my 2001 is all that fast.
I'm gonna get roasted for saying this, but it seems to me this thing takes forever to get up to 100!
My Cobra is flyin past 130 in less time than it takes to blow your nose!
And when I try to get the same sensation from my L it's just a big anti climax!
As far as real times and or numbers, don't have them yet, and all I've done is filter the beast.
But I plan on Dynoing it next month, and I may or may not have a chip by then. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I even want to do that to my Bolt.
Just my 2 cents.

Also the chip tuners are really learning how to tune the chips. After they experimented for two years on all your 99 and 2000 lightnings.

I have also seen that people who have had there chips reburned are getting better results than they did with the origional program.

Sal posted over on his BBS that he dynoed a 2001 at 343rwhp and 414rwtq.
The 99-00s dynoes at 320 rwhp. and 387rwtq approx.
He could only get 22rwhp and 27 rwtq to make it 365rwhp and 441 rwtq.on the 2001.
Do these numbers seem fairly familiar as to what the 99-00s were putting out also? Or is it just me?
Maybe Ford used some of that extra hp in the PCMs already?
Just my .02

I believe Sal did state that that the factory computers were tuned for more HP from the factory. That being the case, a chip is not going to increase the HP/TQ on a 2001 as much as a 99/00. But, (the sound of me knocking on wood) the intercoolers don't leak.(yet)

Dan your right on the money, stop and think about it.

A 99 with a chip and filter makes about 350 RWHP, a 01 chip and filtered make's 365 RWHP. Now add a 90mm MAF on that 99 and it will also make ~ 365 RWHP.

For all intensive purposes a 99 and a 01 are exactly the same minus the MAF. I'm not so sure that the 373's are an advantage in a street race any how.

To this day I don't see what all the confusion is about?

The 3.73s are worth maybe a .10 and 1 mph, if that, in the 1/4. Ask me.
Not to say the 2001 intake and I/C aren't more efficient then our 99-00s it's just that our I/Cs SUCK THE BIG ONE!!! That's the only reason I am jealous of the 01s.
Don't get me stared on the 03s. Can't wait!!!

You guys need to take a look at the new issue of MM&FF. An excerpt:

"In the final phase of the intake path, you'll find a new lower intake manifold designed with reshaped ports that provide improved air flow to the cylinder heads," says our sources at SVT. In addition, "Engineers made an additional improvement for heat management by separating the engine coolant crossover passage from the intake manifold."

I beg to differ on them being the same! The calibrations are not the same. The lower intakes are not the same.

You can put the same 90MM maf and filter on both to allow the same air intake to enter. Where you are going to see the difference is in the lower intake.

The 99-00 intake will have more pressure in the lowerintake runners(Bottleneck). The 2001 has a new improved (less restricted) design. Less pressure, more efficient, more hp & torque the engine will make.

The calibrators did leave room for chip tuners. It was not intentional! They had to meet emissions and fuel economy with a taller gear.

When the chip tuners open up a few of the (key) peramiters they will be letting the cat out of the bag!!!

After seeing JL's dyno on the Diablo chip and a few others they will be reflashing what is coming out now! Just my .02

And no I'm not saying the 01's are better! I'm just saying they have a little more to work with!! Nothing more!

I saw the same thing but there's only 20 RWHP to play with here. A 80mm PRO-M is good for 28 RWHP on someones dyno run, so if the 90mm Ford is good for say 20 RWHP how much is left over for the 'improved air flow to the cylinder heads'? I say they made a change in the 'Engineers made an additional improvement for heat management by separating the engine coolant crossover passage from the intake manifold' thus the change for the lower. BTW they never stated improved HP for the change either, it sounds more like we ****ed up, but made a change in the bottom to cover it.

Let me rephrase that we ****ed up on the 99-00 intercooler so we made a change in the 01 and had to make even another change in the 01 lower, now's all well?!?!?

Why do 2K1 owners make it sound like their L has been redesigned from the ground up?

We are all working with the same basic truck, aren't we?
