**Very Interesting Chip Info--Tuners Please Read**
There is a place here in Little Rock that can burn chips for our trucks that DOES NOT leave the dreaded "p0605" code (or whatever the code is). One of the tuners there told me that any chip tuner should be able to keep this code from showing up. This has been verified with their chip locally. I asked him why all tuners did not do this and he said "probably one of three reasons:
1. Tuner does not know how.
2. Tuner won't (for some reason).
3. Software does not allow tuner to do so."
I do NOT use this company's chip (currently), nor am I affiliated with this company. Just an inquiring mind wanting to know. Now the questions for the other tuners. Why do you not keep your chips from showing the code? Do other tuners have access to do this? Sal, Mike, anyone...?
Thanks for any info.

That's pretty interesting. Do you know what type (brand) of chip they are using? The reason that the P0605 code gets set, is because when you install a chip, it overrides the PCMs stock memory, and when the computer does it's self test on startup, it cannot read it's own memory so it sets that code which means Keep Alive Memory failure. The only way that I can see a chip being plugged in and not setting that code, is if they are somehow turning off the selftest.

Sal,
If I am running a superchip, and before I take it to the dealer, I disconnect the battery, remove the chip, then reconnect the battery, then all electrronic evidence should be gone from the computer. In other words at least without visually examining the plug in terminal conecters(to see if they have been cleaned), no codes should remain in the computer, to tip off the technician that a chip has been used.
Thanks, Brad

cabraco,
After completing those steps, I dont think you will be retaining any codes..but I may be wrong.

Interestingly, there are numerous chip makers for my Audi TT. They are invisible to the dealer's computer, unlike the chips used in the L. Although popping an L chip out prior to a dealer visit is certainly easier than what one must go through to remove an Audi chip which is mounted inside of the ECU.

I am not sure what type or brand of chip they use, but it is not autologic or what superships uses either. The tuner stated it was quite simple to do, it was just knowing how. If anyone is interested in the company, drop me an email @ wrightlightning@aol.com.
Oh, and cabraco, yes the code will remain even if you "reset" the computer. Been there, done that.
