Question Computer swap....What really must be done???

Does anyone REALLY know, what (if anything), must be done to install a computer from one truck to another? Same code, just a swap.
Thanks!
Tom

To swap PCMs on our trucks, the new module must be configured to the truck. You have install the new PCM, use the NGS or WDS and reconfigure the PATS system to recognize the new module. If you want to swap the other PCM back in, you have to do it all over agian. You will have to do it each time you swap in and out.

Question

Can you have 1 set of keys which work with one PCM and another set which work with another PCM? The keys would be physically cut the same, but have a different PATS code on them?!

blue blood: Looks like these guys can make PATS keys: http://www.1-800-pdq-keys.com
You need to find someone in your area that can too.

No, it's not a matter of the keys being coded to the PCM, it's a matter of the PCM being coded to the HEC module, where the PATS system is. So every time you put a different PCM in, the HEC module has to be reconfigured for it. The key thing is just part of the process.

Sorry Tom, didn't see your post Well, it CAN be done by an outside shop if they have the right tools and the correct procedure. But given the fact that even most dealers have a hard time doing this, I'd say that chance of an outside shop doing it is slim.

Stan, different vehicles use a different process. Some have the PATS in the PCM, some in the GEM, some in the HEC, you get the idea. This is just what you need to do for the trucks. If you swapped PCMs on a Stang, and it was a PATS car, then the PATS system is most likely part of the PCM, either that or the car you did didn't have PATS.
