Question Need Help with cam bolts!!

I know you need this kit for alignment, but my question is if you install Herbs washers do you have to re-align you truck? Therefor needing to buy a cam kit? If this is true should I take it to the dealer and have them align it and put fords chicken ***** fix on it , then take it home and put herbs washers on it. WILL I STILL BE ALIGNED IF I DO IT THIS WAY?

it won't retain the alignment. unless the dealer will install Herb's washers and the cam bolts, save your self the hassle and go to an alignment shop and have them do the cam bolts and washers if you didn't do them yourself.

money well spent IMHO.

I just put the washers in and then let the dealer do the alignment

I took mine into an alignment shop last week before I put on the new F1's and still had the 16" winter tires on. The last time I had it aligned (at a different shop), they said their wheel mounted devices wouldn't quite open enough to fit the 18" wheels properly, so they 'flipped' the clamps to go inside the flanges. They said the camber was within tolerances and I didn’t need the cam bolts, so they just set toe. I subsequently scrubbed off the inside of my front tires!

When I told this shop about the problems I’d had (and gave them a copy of the specs recommended on this site), they said that to get a proper job I should put on the F1’s first and that I definitely needed the cam bolts installed before alignment adjustments were made.

I put on the tires (and did a front brake job) Friday night and took it back Monday. The poor guy worked for 3 hours trying to get the (non-cam) bolts out of the upper arms, but he said they wouldn’t budge. He sez they’re frozen into the bushings and gave me an estimate of ~$400 to replace the 4 upper bushings, install cam bolts and align it!!! He couldn’t get bushings before the end of the day, and I needed it that night, so I had him put it back together and paid him $48 for his efforts.

I’ve soaked the upper bushings with penetrating oil and I’m thinking of trying to replace them myself. Any thoughts? Should I use Charley Hot Wrench on the bolts, or will the heat damage the bushings? If I just burn them out, is it easy enough to put in new bushings before the cam bolts? Are our bushings special, or are they standard F150? EEERRRRRR!!!!
