Cool Johnny Lightning ram air kit

Been putting off this post because I don't usuall post unless I have some kind input to give. Well here goes.

I have a Johnny Lightning ram air kit and driveshaft loop. Both are at the powercoater as I find the finish to be lacking, below the standard that I would put on my truck. I also found the ram air kit to be homemade and not of a production type. The quality appears to be just that. Just a note so you guys will know what to expect when you order from Johnny.

Sorry Johnny, you seem to be a great guy but your kit could be better for the money.

Alvin,

Sorry to hear your not happy with the craftmanship of the JL kit. Mine has been on close to a year without any problems, paint and finish still holiding up despite all the salty roads between DE and NJ.....and judging by the article in the newest MM & FF issue, they seem to like it. Just my opinion

I really like the peformance but agree dogleg on the craftmanship. I also never recieved a part that connected to the filter. I connected the filter directly to the black foam. I just noticed it now when I read MM&FF magazine that I never had that part.

Cool

I have had quite a few sports cars in the last few years..Cobra's, Z28's, etc. and I have had tons of aftermarket parts. I have the JL Ram air kit on my Lightning and find it to be equivalant to the rest and a great design. Sorry to hear your not happy with your kit. The metal tubing is painted and it is much better than plastic and a lot less expensive than stainless steel. ;-)

I have both the JL air-kits one for stock and one for pro-m and i can tell you i have had them for 6 months and have taken them off and on between the two trying to see which one worked best on my truck at least 20 different times and they both still look like new!Go buy anybodies elses aftermarket air-kit which i have before(several)and you will appreciate the quality and true performance his system gives us!

No doubt you would've. You are absolutely #1 in customer service if nothing else. And I am happy with the ram air and especially that ROCKIN' new program.

Guys, got it tonight and it really pulls HARD. Especially around 4 grand. I don't need to downshift to spin at 35 mph now - It will spin just by exceeding 3/4 throttle from sheer power. It's like a new truck compared to the R9 I had. And I thought the R9 and original JL program made it a new truck.

Most of todays people arent happy with anything they get unless its free......i happen to think the JL kit is very good............the sound the eaton charger makes after the install is priceless......at least to me.....

Just put mine on this week. I've had it sitting waiting to find the time. I covered the front of the intake with a fine mesh to ensure that it would not collect debris etc.

My question to anyone, maybe even Johnny, is the metal tubing seems to come apart from the intake. The tiny set screw does not seem to hold the two together. I'm considering drilling four holes and putting bigger screws in. Anyone? Did I do something wrong here?

You prolly did nothing wrong. But I had to hold the scoop against the screws while I turned the screwdriver. It worked. Drilling and bigger screws will work also though. Maybe even small nuts and bolts. Just installed mine Friday and love it so far. Truck feels stronger, boost tops out at >12 now, and I LOVE the louder whine. Thanks again to Johnny, as Jim said months ago, #1 in customer service.

Well Iam happy with my ram-air kit. Still haven't gotten around to installing it on my truck but, it sure looks good sitting on the kitchen floor. Working seven days $ucks, had Easter off but decided to wax the truck and drink beer. Hey Johnny, how goes the Diablo program for the 01's Later from the Gator
