Perils of a chip
Well, I am currently on my THIRD tranny. First one went out @ 8400-8500 miles and the second 100 miles later. I had a chip with the first trans, but I have not replaced it since the dealer gave me so much grief about it. I would DEFINITELY think long and hard about putting in a chip if you could have any potential problems with your dealer. My 0.02...

I'm surprised Sal hasn't posted on this one.
Sal has come up with some new info on programming for the Pro-M MAF. Apparently the Pro-M can change the tables in the computer enough to actually cause trans damage. I think he said he lost a trans in his own truck because of this. Sal you want to help me out here ?

FP, I hope your new trans had stouter components than the oem trans, otherwise with repeated applications of the starboard tootsie you are likely to reencounter the problem. I probably could have talked my dealer into fixing mine under warrantee, but that would mean putting the oem crap back into it, and I do not want to waste my time doing that. Intend to fix it right and be done with it.
And I'm not sure whether the shift kit caused the problem or not, but it seems to me that if you firm up the line pressure you may be putting more stress on the clutches. Its the old story of beefing one thing up only to expose a weakness elsewhere. And since I have a ProM and 4.10 gears, I won't remove the chip for fear of leaning out the a/f ratio too much, and the shift points would be messed up, too. I don't think towing with a chip has any deleterious effects, especially since I only do infrequent, short hauls.
